What was your first Stones album?

What was your Stones album?

My first was "Through the Past, Darkly." I got it for my 8th birthday in 1998. I'd become in love with the Stones after hearing Paint it, Black in the ending of The Devil's Advocate. My dad gave me Flashpoint to listen to, but I wanted to hear the same version of the song as in The Devil's Advocate, not a live version. I may have listened to some of my dad's Stones Vinyls on a turn table before my 8th birthday; He had Majesties, Exile, Some Girls, Black and Blue, Tattoo You, and I think Emotional Rescue and YaYa's. As a child, I LOVED the artwork of Majesties; The inner sleeve fascinated me.

Through the Past, Darkly, is IMO, a dark album. Even the poppy, happy songs like Dandelion have a subtle, sinister undertone for me; That album has had an odd darkiness or eeriness about it since I got it.

The first at home was the first (1964), here the name was "The Rolling Stones" with the very same cover than the UK version... my very own first album (LP) was Aftermath (1966) (since then I'm a fan)

First studio album: Steel Wheels. I think I bought that one on casette back in '89. I picked up a double lp called 'The Stones Story' around that time as well: one of the many Decca comps that we saw over the years. That was a nice intro to the Stones.

My first one was also Thru The Past Darkly. I bought it at Gordon's Department Store in Mifflintown PA in 1969. I was 12. The price sticker on it was smeared, so I thought it was $1.99 and asked my Mom to buy it for me. At the checkout, it was actually $4.99, but she bought it for me anyway.  I listened to it non-stop for months. When we returned to Gordon's for Xmas shopping, I asked for and got all the other Stones records in Gordon's little record bin - the new one, Let It Bleed ($4.99), plus Jamming With Edward, which actually was $1.99, and the picture sleeve of Honky Tonk Women, which was probably 79 cents.

I don't have any of those records anymore, but I played them all to death anyway. Except for Jamming With Edward, which I thought was totally boring.

The next one I got was Beggar's Banquet, and then I shoplifted Get Yer Ya-Yas Out in 1970. I guess listening to all those Stones albums was turning me into a juvenile delinquent! I got all the rest of their albums as they came out, and of course eventually got all the earlier ones.

High Tide and Green Grass. Played it like crazy... everything on there. Got it new when I was 10. I was fascinated with The Stones after hearing Brown Sugar and seein Mick Jagger singing it and I thought... I dig that song! I needed to know and hear more of them ..and in a little time they were the very point of my interest musically (some months). I really wanted Satisfaction on record. Hence, High tide and Green Grass was bought for me for my 10th Birthday I believe.

I can distinctly remember a woman I showed it to who used to work with my Mom looking at it and sayin... "Ahhhh .. a rolled oldie-goldie" (as in.. a classic but a rather old album from a time far past). Little did we both think of, or could of ever fathomed The Stones actually would be around another 30 plus years (and counting ... some pun intended).

Next album was Tattoo You.. not too long after it came out... which was another story all together.

I entered a contest to win "High Tides and Green Grass" but never heard from them---so, I'm assuming that I didn't win.... Roll Eyes you made a grown man cry

I didn't have a big allowance when I was a young teen, so my album purchases were few and far between. My first Stones album was, interestingly enough, "Got Live If You Want It".

TV advertised album on ARCADE Records, release late 1977 which I got for Christmas that year.

Strangely, I have never to this day owned a copy of either 'Hot Rocks' or the album considered to be its UK equivalent 'Rolled Gold', in any format.

'Get Stoned' was pretty much all I needed as a greatest hits release when I was at school.  When I started buying Stones albums after that, compilations werent a priority (also, there was another Tv double album compilation called 'Story of the Stones' which came out on KTel Records around 1983 which I also bought. Track listing was pretty similar to 'Get Stoned' and as that album had been scratched or played to death by that stage, this new one pretty much got used as an updated version)

Had access to older sister's vinyl copy of Hot Rocks as a young boy (loved Charlie in the leather vest and the rest of the group hanging from the ledge on the back cover), Sticky Fingers with working zipper (yeah, I looked) and Beggar's Banquet with the RSVP cover and my sister's initials written in the upper left and Keith in repose on the gatefold.

First album I bought on day of release:  ER.

From my brother, I could listen this as first, and it wasnt theirs sound that they were used to.
At that stage I then looked forwards to bought every LP that had come out. Never got compilations or similar.
...

But at the same it was got played to death.  A lot before I could listen the others.

Very first one was December's Children that my older Sister who lived in the States sent me for Xmas, this was in the 60's when money was tight,  I cherished that album like crazy, after that it was all the other 60's London Years albums.
