Put it this way when I woke up today I didn't have to rush to the iPad and have another listen.  In fact it was mid- morning before I remembered to give it another spin. Ambivalence in spades.

I wish they would go out like they came in.  Blues.

What's the other song they did? is that not released yet? Doom & Gloom is the best thing Mick & Keith have done in years, now if they could only do a whole album, they got it in them going by this song.

Agreed - Just what I thought.

It's shirley the blues, 72Tele. Pasty-faced and silly as sin, but definitely the blues, in my hairs on the nape of the neck of the woods.

The most important question, perhaps - or maybe the least - is:  what is said after the guffaws/chuckle-ohs at the end of Doom & Gloom, after CW's end-tingles?

50 Years, of course, is a mere trifle as far as these crazy beautiful tw*ts are concerned.

Gloom and Doom is edgy and hefty...also "Swampy" as someone put it. I gotta say, it's a curve-ball more over from what we expected.

Jagger sings about zombies, and for some reason it has a kina sinister, heavy groove that conveys a sort of zombism somehow. Don't know why... it just has a stark darkness to the song that could convey the likes of Armageddon and Zombies ...which is what the guy sings about. It rocks. ...and a little something nobody mentioned is ....it's .... "fun". As Gazza said, it kinda makes you wanna dance around with your hog hanging out or something... as silly and ridiculous as that sounds. Certainly not "fun-happy", not "fun-light", it just has a fun way about it without it being a-typical, because "a-typical" ..it is not.

Perfect song for the season and it goes right in line with current affairs.

I commented that I had hoped we didn't get any sort of standard, generic Stones rocker. We needed something different... with edge, something even unconventional (some might argue for the most part it's basic Stones but to me it's mostly unconventional besides the actual chorus... The melody, production, breaks...very different), yet still Stones.. and still rock.

We got it. Very well done lads. At first I was not sure... but now I think it has hit the mark as we wanted.

Ian

It would be the ideal opener for a show. After so long, and knowing this is probably the last time, they could just come out and wave to the crowd for 5 minutes. So, to at least play something new, this would be a great opener. And means it go down like a lead balloon at song number 3 or so.

Exactly! And they can have an inflateable gorilla too. Who cares? It gets it all out the way, and Gloom is a decent rocker too. I'm quite pleased with the amount of positive coverage they are getting. It's a good replacement for a 2nd string song like you got me rocking. And plundered my soul (though maybe in my opinion a bit too much like tumbling dice) could replace something like miss you.

I can sing it in my head, when not listening, and it is good... so fuck if this ain't a great sign...
My first Stones sing along was Bith way back when I was just out of diapers... do the math, almost 40 years for me, and they were pumping out tunes for years already...
If you don't like it, don't bitch, just move on... This shit will never, ever, never fucking ever happen for any other band!!!
And the bands who are in the running, do not hold a candle to even the limited output we have seen in the 2000's!!!
The few contemporaries left, are either solo artists like Dylan or Aerosmith... c'mon!!! Aerosmith!!!
Sorry to slag on them, but my ppint is, I'm a happy Stones fan... always was I guess... just reminded when I hear a song that gets stuck in my head, makes me want to listen to Don't Stop again... dig up ABB and play some of it... think maybe they will play live and my friends may go... fuck yea!!! Wake up people... Don't hate, celebrate!!!
I'm Pdog, and I approve this effin' shit!!!

PDOG, YOUR SENTIMENTS ARE WELL STATED AND APPRECIATED.
BUT IF YOU ARE COMPARING WHAT BOB DYLAN & THE STONES HAVE DONE SINCE 1997,YOU ARE BARKING UP THE WRONG TREE.DYLAN HAS RELEASED 5 OF THE MOST COMPELLING RECORDS OF HIS CAREER.
THE STONES HAVE RELEASED 2 GRRREATEST RECORDS AND 2 GOOD RECORDS AND RIPPED OFF FANS AT ALMOST EVERY TURN.
I'M NOT A STEPFORD AND NEVER WILL BE.

The new songs since 2002 like Gloom continue to make me appreciate what a fine album Bridges to Babylon turned out to be.

And that's either Ron Wood or a dead Jimmy Miller on drums for Gloom and Doom.

After having read all of you , i think that new stones is a low Cost  one !
Most of people who don't know anything about the rolling stones say it's a good one , because they cook it well , a little bit of open G guitar , a meowing Jagger , a boring Charlie playing , ron as he is,and some studios bank of sounds , and the track is in the box .
This track is a Gimmick
I'm sure they can be better and certainly on stage , we will see it soon  Fuck you Gazza, Will ya?

Great song but the solo was very weak. Missed opportunity for an awesome Mick Taylor solo which could've taken it to another level.
