OK...

I've been hard at work all day and come home to 6 pages of grrr's.

I take it this was what the phone app was for?  This was the "big announcement"?

It isn't even worth a meow, let a growl...

But I am not surprised.  I have come to accept that I can't expect much creativity from these old geezers.  But that they continue to resell us the greatest hits of the old greatest hits of the all time 50 years of greatest hits for astronomical amounts of money (that's if you by the deluxe deluxe edition with all the fruits and whistles), does not shock me at all..

I've got no expectations.........

Now that i've looked at it a bit longer...

It's a Monkey...

With a somewhat cheeky smile...

Sticking it's tongue out at us..

Now that works really well in the circus, but anywhere else it's just a monkey saying "fuck you"

I knew I'd seen that grinning fucker somewhere before...

I hear ya Meg, but after weeks of 'it's coming!' spam by the Stones I let go of my cynicism for a tiny bit and GRRRRRRRRRRR! there it is...another comp no one wants...

A theory: could it be Mick wants to be able to say Goddess outsold a Stones album?

Has anyone pointed out yet that gorillas say "Ooh! Ooh! Ooh!" and not "Grrr!".

With a title like that, a rabid dog on the cover would have been more appropriate.

Something like "Skippy", the 1990 Urban Jungle tour logo

http://andieairfix.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/rolling-stones-urban-jungle-eu-59...

Bad enough they chose a rival for Fiona Apple's  ‘When the Pawn Hits the Conflicts He Thinks Like a King What He Knows Throws the Blows When He Goes to the Fight and He'll Win the Whole Thing 'Fore He Enters the Ring There's No Body to Batter When Your Mind Is Your Might So When You Go Solo, You Hold Your Own Hand and Remember That Depth Is the Greatest of Heights and If You Know Where You Stand, Then You'll Know Where to Land and If You Fall It Won't Matter, Cuz You Know That You're Right’ for the dubious honour of Worst Album Title By A Major Act In History  but it's not even factually accurate!

Someone mentioned it earlier in a way...but I would love to see some promo ads
for GRRR! ( exclamation point part of the title) the way they used to do video promos in the 80's
for their stuff...Jagger mumbling coying saying "GRRR!"would be weird.

Well I am looking forward to hearing the 2 new songs. From what I've heard they are 2 solid rockers so thats what I like the most anyway. I cant wait to hear the new songs, even if its only just 2 instead of 20. Quality not quantity when you reach a certain age.

Yep...worth buying three cds for.

The only 'review' we've read of the new songs came from Chuck Leavell.

He's hardly going to say 'They're cliched, Stones-by-numbers shite they tossed off in two days", let's face it.

In 1970, the Stones left Decca and formed their own record label, with a distribution deal being signed by WEA

The following year, Decca released a compilation called "Stone Age" of 'obscure' previously released material. When they did, the Stones - who were releasing Sticky Fingers the same week - took out a full page ad in the music press disowning the Decca release, advising fans that they were on a new label and to 'avoid inferior product'.

This is the Stones' commercially released output post-ABKCO

1971 - studio album
1972 - studio album (double)
1973 - studio album
1974 - studio album
1975 - compilation
1976 - studio album
1977 - live album (double)
1978 - studio album
1979 - compilation
1980 - reissue series of post 1970 catalogue due to a change in distributor
1980 - studio album
1981 - compilation
1981 - studio album
1982 - live album
1983 - studio album
1984 - compilation
1986 - studio album
1986 - reissue series of post 1970 catalogue on CD
1989 - studio album
1989 - boxed set CD reissue of post 1970 catalogue, with a bonus disc of rare B-sides
1991 - live album
1993 - compilation
1994 - reissue series of remastered post 1970 catalogue on CD (change in distributor)
1994 - studio album
1995 - live album
1997 - studio album
1998 - live album
2002 - reissue series of some more post 1970 catalogue on CD
2002 - compilation (double CD)
2004 - live album (double CD)
2005 - studio album
2005 - special edition of studio album with a couple of extra songs etc
2005 - compilation
2008 - live album
2009 - reissued and remastered series of most of post 1970 catalogue on CD
2010 - reissue of Exile On Main Street, with bonus CD of unreleased material
2011 - reissue of Some Girls (using the 2009 remaster), with bonus CD of unreleased material
2012 - compilation (3 CD)

I may have missed a reissue or two.

however, its not really hard to pinpoint the time period when they stopped caring about being a creative act and were happy to concentrate on cashing in.

After some thought and over the shock of Kink Kink the Tongue Ape....

The Stones would have been better served had they said Bigger Bang and the following tour was the final bow.  The re-releases of Exile and Some Girls with bonus material and 'new' tracks would have been a bigger treat.  That would make GRRR!  easier to take.  A short reunion, a few shows and 2 new tracks would make more sense coming from a band that is coming out of retirement for one more lap than it does from the perspective of there have always been plans to do more after Bigger Bang.

Put it this way. The title track of the new Dylan album is twice as long as the sum total of the Stones entire new output since 2005.

I keep thinking "there has to be a catch here"

A release called Grrr and a cover of a gorilla with a tongue.

It's lazy, stupid, insulting and pointless.

That's what they are leading with.

Pathetic.

They didn't spend long in Paris on those two songs. I bet half the time was spent reviewing the box set and laughing about $1,500 (US dollars) box sets of old concerts.

This is such a huge epic disaster. How do you pronounce the title? When I call the store, do I start grunting and growling at them? "Sir, what are you looking for?"

"GRRR!"

I'd be less embarrassed if I walked in to a sex shop and asked for a butt plug.

At least then I could pretend I was doing it for someone else.

How appropriate. SV!! Grin Grin

The naive part of me really wants to think that this is some kind of joke on the Stones part.  The childish gorilla theme and the two new song titles kind of make you think they are having a laugh at themselves and their record label.  They have to know that their creative juices aren't flowing. The record label wants an album and their fans are howling for them to do something.....

That they will be laughing all the way to the bank because some "silly folks" will actually buy it..we already know that to be true......

I think this is the first time a butt plug has received mention on this board.

The artist who came up with that has a style that is a throwback to the 19th century. The few things I saw from him all look like old-timey prints. When I see apes I think of the Evolution of Man image. Putting the lips on the ape make it seem like they really have been around forever - and apes are primal. So are the Stones.  GRRR!

Just got a copy of the new Dylan (God bless him for keeping on). It has a beautiful track "Roll On John", about John Lennon. Couldn't help thinking, what would John have said about this. No doubt it would be very very sarcastic.

john would have browbeated him to death and deservedly so, prolly one of the few in the world whose acceptance he relished.
