In 1970, the Stones left Decca and formed their own record label, with a distribution deal being signed by WEA
The following year, Decca released a compilation called "Stone Age" of 'obscure' previously released material. When they did, the Stones - who were releasing Sticky Fingers the same week - took out a full page ad in the music press disowning the Decca release, advising fans that they were on a new label and to 'avoid inferior product'.

however, its not really hard to pinpoint the time period when they stopped caring about being a creative act and were happy to concentrate on cashing in.
