Chris Epting (hbwriter on IORR) who some of you may know is a music journalist stated that he'd been told that there may be a lottery-type ticketless system for these shows to make availability fairer and to cut down on scalping as they know the demand will be massive. Something similar to what was used when Led Zeppelin did their reunion gig at the 02 five years ago.

If true, this might explain why Richard Branson - who has no track record in concert promotion to speak of but is big on philanthopical and charitable endeavours - is involved in this venture with an established concert promoter in Paul Dainty.

This particular mug-punter is sorely unconvinced 'our boys' could genuinely, sell out multiple nights at London's O2 in 2012.
They couldn't, circa 2007 (remember the stewards on the stairwells with fistfull's of free upgrades??)The ballot system would be a cannny way of generating positive p.r & a guaranteed 'sell out'

All true, although the significant difference this time is that in 2007 theyd played London just 12 months earlier, and more importantly these will be the only shows in Europe this year.

Exclusive: Rolling Stones Dates In New York and London

The Rolling Stones have picked their dates for four 50th anniversary shows this fall: November 26 and 27 in London at the O2 Arena and December 6 and 7 in Brooklyn at the Barclays Center. Tickets will be roughly $500 apiece to offset the $25 million the group is being paid by Sir Richard Branson.

The shows follows an HBO documentary (which this column announced some months ago) plus a huge 50th anniversary photo book that collects all the best pictures of the group going back to 1962.

The Stones are not alone celebrating their 50th anniversary this fall. Barbra Streisand will precede them into the Barclays Center in October.

The Stones shows may be the beginning of a big worldwide farewell 50th anniversary tour. There may be an album of new material too.

Branson, I am told, was convinced by Mick Jagger to get into the live promotion business with Australian Paul Dainty. Jagger rejected offers from Live Nation, AEGLive and Michael Cohl, the producer who just settled his “Spider Man” lawsuits on Broadway with Julie Tamor.

Worth repeating Erikjjf's detective work from the other day which indicated that the 02 is available November 16-25,27 & 29 and that the only three nights available at the Barclays Center in early December are 6,8 and 13th, so these dates may be wrong. Hopefully the ticket prices speculation is as well.....however this journo apparently broke the SuperHeavy story - so he has a bit of a track record for news stories that would freak Stones fans out!

Rob Zombie & Marilyn Manson are playing the 02 on November 26th

The Brooklyn Nets have a home game at the Barclays Center on December 7th.

Combinations of November 25/27 for London and December 6/8 for New York WOULD work, though.

You know, I never even noticed that.

So, he's wrong on those concert dates.

He's also wrong on the new album.

I'd guess he's probably wrong about a 'big' tour.

I hope to fuck he's also wrong on those prices.

$500 isnt unbelievable for shows in New York considering their top price was $450 six years ago, but the top price for UK tickets in 2007 was £150 which was considered really excessive for here and way above what anyone else was charging. This, if true, would mean the prices this time would be more than DOUBLE that.

They'd deserve to be sent to the Tower of London if they charged that for a show in the UK.

There's no difference in disassembling an arena stage in a few hours for another event (sporting or musical) the next day for the Stones than there is for anyone else. These venues do this kind of thing all year round.

The basic end stage is already there anyway at both venues. A b-stage (if there is one - hopefully not as its been done to death and probably wouldnt be needed for just four concerts) would require a bit more work in terms of being set up and dismantled, although hardly a big deal.
