Pretty damn cool hearing Elbow tonight! I like Elbow.
They composed the theme ("First Steps") to the BBC's Olympics coverage which has never been off the TV for the last three weeks..lovely piece of music.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5WfsWF4dfE&feature=relatedDidnt get to see the closing ceremony tonight as I was at a gig, but have recorded it to watch later. Have to say its been the most enjoyable two weeks of sport I've ever experienced and I'm really kicking myself now that I didnt go to London to see any of it (hindsight is a wonderful thing - but I genuinely did expect a security incident at some stage and the stories about overpriced hotels were offputting). I'm really sorry its all over and its a sobering thought that its probably the last occasion in my lifetime we'll ever stage it.
SO so proud of how London and the UK pulled it off and amazingly delighted and uplifted by the performances of our athletes (and indeed all the athletes regardless of where they came from). The feelgood factor throughout the country in the last two weeks is something you simply can't put a price on. And for a nation that's so easily down on ourselves and where you almost have to feel apologetic for taking some pride in your achievements, that's made such a pleasant change. Hopefully one legacy will be that we see kids growing up seeing the likes of Ennis, Hoy, Farah, Ainslie, Wiggins etc as people to be admired and emulated instead of vapid airheaded z-list celebrities who have achieved fuck all of note in their shallow and pointless existences.
