Anyone really love 70s Elvis? I think some of his best music actually came from the 70s. The guy put out at least an album a year from 1970 up until his death; the 70s were ironically his most productive and diverse years musically. He was experimenting with all sorts of music from Funk to Gospel to Country to Disco toward the end...The instruments were better and it was just pure music, not tied to any movie crap. I really think it was his best period and it's a shame he died so young.

Agreed as to all points except for the characterization 'best period'....how one can get beyond 1954-1958 as his period is beyond me ....  I Love the rest, but let's get real here.....

What Jizzy said, except I'd extend the golden period to 1960 to include his greatest ever album, "Elvis Is Back". And he ALWAYS 'experimented' with different musical styles.

SOME of his best music came in the 70s, but for sustained brilliance, you cant touch the period that preceded his first post-army movie (GI Blues).

The period that runs it closest though was 1968-70. Lots of patchy stuff after that but some majestic moments for sure.

Point well taken; "Elvis Is Back" is his best album.  God, I love 'Reconsider Baby'!

Love this live performance from the Pearl Harbor benefit show in Hawaii, March 1961

This and another benefit show in Memphis a month earlier were his only concerts between 1957 and the 1968 NBC Special.

That's a coincidence.

I heard Kentucky Rain on the radio a couple of days ago and it's been running round my brain ever since.
