My First Stones Show(s)...Toronto July 15th 1972

After camping out for 2.5 days on Church Street in Toronto in the cold I scored 6 tickets for the afternoon and another 6 tickets for the night show the same day. You should have seen the piles of printed tickets in the Maple Leaf Gardens coming down off a 2 day acid blitz! No Ticketbastard in those days. I was a senior in highs chool and sure used the 10 extra tickets to my advantage...lol

We saw lots of great bands in those days and had seen most of the top touring acts between Toronto, Buffalo and Detroit as we were a max 3 hours away. I lived in a city with 2 Universities and tons of great bands also came through our city. I of course had been bragging for years the Stones would blow any band off the stage and now it was put up or shut up time.

Our group travelled in 2 cars all rammed in and smoking weed and hoisting some beers. Walking into the arena it was strange as the stage was filled with amps/speakers and no place for the band. In those days bands had little equipment and rented small amounts locally. Stones brought their own..and lots of it. Then to our amazement the speaker banks began lifting up hydraulically off the stage to position well off the stage to blast the middle of the arena. It was amazing to see that for the first time.

The shows themselves were beyond description in their intensity, power and tightness. I was proven right and my band delivered beyond my own lofty expectations. Stevie Wonder added an incredible 2 sets and blew the roof off himself. Driving home after it was dead silence in the car as my friends were stunned at the Majesty of the Fucking Rolling Stones. The worlds Greatest R&R band.
I know some of you were there and hope you share my fantastic memories of this unbelievable day in Stones history!

I was there Gimmekeef, I got to the box office (I didn't camp out) early in the morning, & got my tickets at 2 in the afternoon, there were only greys left, each person was allowed 4 tickets, I sold mine for a ground floor, $35 in those days was a lot of money believe it or not, it was a fantastic show, like nothing I ever seen in my life, & I saw all the top bands, Led Zep/Alice Cooper(who were enormous in those days, they sold out stadiums) etc but The stones really stood out, I've been a fan of them since the 60's, or when I first heard of them.
