About the tongue logo as well, this is the story...

Back in October 1969 when Mick Jagger was touching the last tracks of “Let it Bleed” with Leon Russell and Nicky Hopkins in Los Angeles, Mick asked a local designer Ruby Mazur for ideas about an irreverent logo for the Rolling Stones. BTW, Ruby is the father of Monet Mazur the actress who played Anita Pallenberg in in the movie “Stoned” about the life of Brian Jones.

He gave him these designs between others

Later, when planning Sticky Fingers cover art, Mick gave these logos to Andy Warhol for the cover, he didn’t like them at all and hired a designer from London, John Pasche who made the final design which made it on the album and the official logo since then. Neither Ruby nor John were credited on the Sticky Fingers album. For years the people thought it was Andy Warhol’s design, then John Pasche's and recently Ruby's.

Ruby’s designs were used for the Exile on Main Street die-cut singles

During the years several tongues were designed based on the official design, some of the really creative like the used for the Steel Wheels/Urban Jungle tours and specially for the Voodoo Lounge Tour, my favourites.

But today we had the same tongue in the WORST logo design EVER

I love it how they "'cleverly" intergrated the 50 into the band's name.

I'm fairly underwhelmed by this too...it's still not as bad as the Thanksgiving tongue, but it should be the best EVER. And it sure ain't.

Anyhoo, here's what the designer, Shepard Fairey (the Obama "Hope" poster dude) had to say about it on his website:



I've been a big fan of the Rolling Stones since my dad introduced me to "Satisfaction." Tattoo You is one of the earliest albums I bought with my own money and I studied the album package obsessively … you may notice how its color scheme and iconic art could have inspired me? The Rolling Stones have had a lot of great art over the decades, but nothing can top their tongue logo, originally created by John Pasche in 1971. In my opinion, the Stones' tongue logo is the most iconic, potent and enduring logo in rock & roll history. I think the logo not only captures Mick Jagger's signature lips and tongue, but also the essence of rebellion and sexuality that is the allure of all rock & roll at its finest.

I first worked with Mick Jagger and Dave Stewart on their project SuperHeavy. Mick and Dave were great to work with and I became at ease with our creative rapport despite their stature as musicians. However, when Mick Jagger reached out to me about designing a logo to mark the Rolling Stones' 50th anniversary I was quite overwhelmed. Mick said he was open to any of my ideas. One of the first things I asked Mick was, "Don't you think the tongue HAS to be included?" He responded, "Yeah, I guess it ought to be." Case closed. I was very humbled and honored to be asked to work on the 50th logo, so my objective was to service and showcase the Stones' legacy rather than try to make my contribution dominant.

I worked on this project as a fan knowing that the Stones' tongue was the focus and the starting point. With that in mind I set out to integrate the 50 in a creative and memorable way. I think the solution speaks for itself in celebrating the Stones' trademark icon and historical anniversary. I'd like to thank the Rolling Stones for all their great music that has impacted my life and for allowing me to make a small contribution to their 50th anniversary.

Shepard "Pie" Fairey is hands down the worst logo designer ever. He sucks on every single level. That is all.


My dog left better 50th anniversary logo material on our lawn this morning than this rank amateur graphic artist Marxist fuckstick. Deny it all you want BJ, but "your friend" is the most decisive poster designer in history, wait did I say decisive, I meant derisive, and he, and he alone, has created a logo that is going to destroy future generations for decades to come. He's fucking my kids over!!!!! Fuck him.


I knew this logo  would suck. Shepard Fairey sucks. I told you so.
