The Queen's Diamond Jubilee

The Queen of England looks good for 86 years old! Quite a celebration they sprung for to celebrate her 60 years on the throne. Personally I think she should retire and hand over the kingdom to old Prince Charles, he's certainly waited patiently for the old broad to pass it on!

I'm watching the concert they had in her honor. Cool stuff, Sir Elton, Sir Paul, but I wonder why no Sir MICK? I wonder if MICK was invited or was passed over. My guess is that MICK was not invited to the party, or he surely would of been there with Will.I.Am! Even he got invited and he's American, along with Stevie Wonder! I wonder if MICK is annoyed by any of this.

Also announced is Sir Paul will be closing the Olympic ceremonies. I guess The Stones were passed over for that as well, or they turned it down. The Stones are missing these major opportunities! I would of welcomed an appearance. Sad they arent involved.

Just observing The Queen, she doesnt show much emotion in her face ever. Shes not even smiling when they say Hip Hip Horay 3 times with everyone cheering. She does not crack a smile, or give a fist pump, LOL.

No he's not, he's got excellent manners and does the "right thing" including marrying Princess Di instead of following his heart since if he married Camilla it wouldnt of been proper. He made his sacrifices.  I dont think they can just skip over him, it has to go in order of birth doesnt it?

I'm pretty sure the Stones were invited and declined. Whether Mick himself was inited to perform. Don't know. I started watching this stuff sunday with the ceremony they had on the Thames river. As an american who's never been to England. I thought it was a pretty nice ceremony. Then I read the thread about it on IORR and it doesn't take more than a couple of posts before it gets political and ugly. What else is new around there. But I do plan on watching tonight out here on the west coast.

I've been watching all the pomp and circumstance {saw the concert on TV--or the telly Smiley--tonight}, and I love it all! This American is fascinated with all things "royal" and British as well. I guess it's mainly because it's all so very different from what we have in the States. Anyway......"God Save The Queen"!  Grin Cool

I have only seen bits and parts of all of the pomp and cirumstance but it looks like fun. We did watch a good portion of the concert last night, and I thought is was very nice and everyone seemed in fine form. I guess 60 years on the throne is uncommon, so good for the Queen, and good for the people of England. They all seemed quite pleased and feeling good about one's govenrment isnt be a bad thing.

I too noticed that she seemed very low key and somber.  Then I checked the latest news, and it was confirmed by Charles during his speech - her husband was taken to the hospital before the event. That must have been why she was so serious.

I'd be even more pretty sure that they weren't.

Thought that it was a nice event and went off well, but it always makes me laugh why people think the Stones or Mick Jagger should/would be part of it.  It's really not their type of event.

Thankfully.

The monarch is the head of state - she's not the government.

Which may explain the popularity!

Well, then let me rephrase- it is good to see the English people are happy with their monarch(y), versus wanting to chop off her head, although that would probably make for better TV ratings, but I expect she might not be OK with that.

Gazza,at this point, the only thing that's their type of event is some gala black tie event. Anything that involves the playing of music together as a band is a foreign concept these days. Don't suck my cock

- Mick Jagger, 1968

From the Daily Mail:

SURPRISING that the Rolling Stones weren’t on the bill at Monday’s Jubilee concert outside Buckingham Palace, despite Sir Paul McCartney and the rest of the British music industry’s grandees agreeing to perform. A spokesman for the band informs me: ‘Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones were invited repeatedly by Gary Barlow but were not available.’ Perhaps Sir Mick was too busy minding his financial affairs. As a tax exile, old rubber lips can only spend 90 days in the UK. In 2002 he delayed collecting his knighthood for over a year so that his annual income – estimated at £24.5million – remained relatively untouched by the Inland Revenue.

APROPOS McCartney, 69, he was introduced on stage by comedian Peter Kay as ‘Paul Winston McCartney’.
Winston was actually his fellow Beatle John Lennon’s middle name. Macca’s full name is actually James Paul
McCartney. Will he ever be allowed to emerge from his more celebrated song-writing partner’s shadow?

Charles could (and should) abdicate in favor of William in the interest of saving the monarchy and atoning for the Diana/Camilla fiasco.

She looks like my neighbor. I guess it's that "girl-next-door" allure.

Say, jackjones, over the weekend I re-watched Oliver
Stone's fairly awful movie "Nixon" (don't ask why, I
haven't a glimmer) and noticed that the evil Dixiecrat
character played by Joey's favorite "actor" Larry Hagfish
was named...dum da dum...jack jones...
