Yeah, it's really sad. Sad I guess we all just knew it was a matter of time....

I know, to most people, the BeeGees represent the disco era. I never cared for disco at all. To me, it was all about those first 3 albums...especially BeeGees 1st. I got that when I was 15...Barry was 19 and Robin and Maurice were 17, and they wrote the music and did all the orchestrations.....it's a really neat album! NOTHING like what they were doing in the 70's. If you haven't checked the 60's BeeGee's out, I do recommend doing so.  Smiley

Xactly. I'll add Mr Natural (from 1974, I think) to the list, upbeat and nearly schlockless. I still haven't heard Odessa, apparently one of their better albums.

RIP.

I just listened to a song from Robin's latest project, with his son, called Titanic Requiem. The song is "Don't Cry Alone", and it's on YouTube. Hauntingly beautiful with lovely orchestration.

and I second this!!

For me, I started getting into the Bee Gees in late '67, when 'Massachusetts' was released.  "Horizontal" was my 1st Bee Gees album I had gotten, and shortly after that got "1st" & "Idea"  Then in late '68, Atco released some recordings they did from '63-'66, when they were EARLY TEENS in Austrailia!!  Called "Rare, Precious & Beautiful" I wound up eventually getting 2 of the 3 volumes of these.  Then in '69, they released the double album "Odessa", with an red velvet cover!  Another excellent album.

I have always felt that the Bee Gees got a 'bum rap' over the disco thing, prolly cuz I'm never thought of them as 'disco'  even during the Saturday Nite Fever craze ... to me they had just 'reinvented' their style to more of a dance band, to keep up with the flow, so to speak.  This is JMO though.

Anyhow, RIP Robin.  Thank u for the music & the memories.

My prayers are with his mom, Barry, his wife Dwina and his children.

RIP Robin Gibb.  I love the Bee Gees, and I love their Saturday Night Fever soundtrack.   Great talent and a huge loss.

I never saw Bee Gees live, a regret.   Any Bee Gees concert DVDs?

Thank you for the music, Mr. Gibb.  I will listen to Bee Gees today in your honor.

Your fan,

FG!

RIP Robin

About the Bee Gees' music, I tried their first albums as I was recommended to listen them some years ago, a friend told me "they were  psychedelic" so I tried but their phsycedelia was soft, light, pop, but OK... but as Sioux wrote, that was very different to the music most of the people know from them

I didn't like their music but they were really GREAT in their own

Other thing is, they were one of the most expensive acts, a local promotor from OCESA told me that they were as expensive as the Rolling Stones

Only one left...

As I have been telling it is logic that we are going to lose musicians from the era, it's time for many and many have passed already

Tooo bad!

Yes, "Every Christian Lion-Hearted Man Will Show You" is from BeeGees 1st.

Yes, they were still rather "pop-y", and had Beatle overtones, but I was 15 when that album came out, and I was pretty impressed with the songs, orchestration, and the fact that the guys were SO young! The album produced 3 well known songs, and there was no "filler", IMO. I played that record a LOT.

Aww he was suffering for a while so he's better off dead I guess. It is very sad, he had a very good career, the Bee Gees hit it exactly right in the Disco era! I never bought any of their records, but I certainly enjoyed dancing to the music in the clubs! Was he British or Australian?

From Isle Of Man then moved to Australia at a very young age, just after Andy Gibb was born. They started the music career Down Under...All that from Wiki...

I don't own any BeeGees' albums, I do have the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack though.  I love that song, "How Deep Is Your Love".

May he rest in peace!  Such a beautiful voice!  So sad!
