I've been actually thinking the same thing. The Stones camp keeps saying that this is going to be an exciting year. The thing is, the actual Anniversary DATE is non-existant due to the fact that they are moving the Anniversary Year to 2013 to signify the year that Charlie joined, essentially saying the Rolling Stones did not officiate until Charlie joined. So what date was that, exactly? Gazzapedia??

They're not 'moving the date' at all - its a lot of revisionist bullshit from Keith to shut up a journalist and a few rabid fans and to mask over the fact that for some reason they wont allude to publicly they're not up to playing this summer.

Considering theyve been talking up 2012 as their 50th anniversary for about two years now and released a greatest hits album in 2002 called '40 Licks' to commemorate their 40th anniversary as well as starting a tour in 2002 to commemorate it, its absolute crap to suggest that they dont consider themselves to have existed as a band until Charlie joined them. They even had their first recording session in October 1962!

Not the first time Keith's tried to re-write history in the last couple of years and I doubt it'll be the last. They played about 40 shows in 1962 as 'The Rollin' Stones', they'd also had a Marquee residency under that name on that night of the week with different drummers sitting in before Charlie started playing with them and no amount of nonsense from Keith can change that.

The only way they could "spin" them not being physically up to playing this year would be to calculate Licks as a 2002-2003 extravaganza (..which it was... in all fairness) and then say... well if your truly counting...50 years would really be more 2013 so ... . However I do not think they are going to tout next year as an anniversary thing. The releases and celebrations for all that is going on this year. Next year will be live shows / some type of tour and new album. I'm not convinced they are going to try and call it a 50th anniversary thing next year. The greatest hits package...documentary.... book..... and bootleg releases for their 50th anniversary celebration is happening this year. I think next year could very well be a new thing on it's own. Whether you want to think it's their 50 by the time next year rolls around or not will be up to you but I honestly think next year will be a year with an album and tour or some sort of live shows and not a continued 50 th celebration. How can you release a book and movie one year in celebration of your 50th anniversary and then tour next year saying it's your 50th anniversary that year...? Next year very well may be a new thing all on it's own. That would make more sense and seems to be what is to take place.
