Anyone else love this Elton album?

Also, does anyone else think this song off that album is Stonesy?

I've heard it compare to The Band's music, but I can't find any The Band songs that sound like it.

I love that album.  I do.  Listened to it many times over years, Country Comfort, Where To Know St. Peter, Burn Down the Mission.  Amoreena was in Dog Bag Afternoon.

Tumbleweed and Madman Across Water are really good Elton John albums, he had some talent for awhile.

It's a fantastic album. That, and the first one--they are my favorite Elton John projects. And they are both so different from each other.

In the 70's I liked his music, but I never cared for him as a live act, I was (and still am) a big Bowie Fan, & the people I hung around with people always thought the image of a Rock & Roll star is important too, being thin was very important for the image, Rock & Roll people usually were, but Elton just didn't fit that image, of course everything's changed, but I got to say I loved his music.

Here was his pudgy image in the 70s.
...

He needed to be flayed out on a cross, bunny style.

But yeah, his 70s music really was good at times.

A great album; I would add Honky Chateau to the list of recommended Elton albums.

Elton started out really normal. And he was a session musician in the mid 60's in England--when he was still Reginald Dwight. He was all about the music making those early 70's albums. I remember how shocked I was at the over the top clothes and glasses and all that mess later in the decade.... Huh Undecided

Stones content:  Paul Buckmaster, who handled the strings on "Moonlight Mile," is credited as arranger on Elton's first three albums:  Elton John, Tumbleweed Connection and Madman Across the Water.

Paul Buckmaster is AMAZING to me...he has a certain "sound" to his orchestrations. He also did the soundtrack to the movie "Friends", which had John/Taupin compositions. Just gorgeous. And, the first time I heard Train's "Drops of Jupiter"....well, that orchestration was a dead giveaway! Yep--it was Paul Buckmaster. Smiley

After Lennon/McCartney and Jagger/Richards, I can't think of a songwriting duo in the rock era with a more impressive body of work than Elton John and Bernie Taupin.  Can any of you?

I had thought of them, but since Robert Hunter wrote lyrics for Bob Weir as well as Jerry, I didn't think of them being as much of a songwriting team as Elton and Bernie.  Pretty great stuff, though; some of my best times were at Dead shows (my first show was Veneta 08-27-72).
