Would Ry Cooder have fit in the Stones?

What do you think? I personally think that Memo from Turner is the best and most Stonesy solo track by any member of the band and it's mostly due to Ry's great guitar work...You could easily believe that it's Mick Taylor or Keith playing that slide if you didn't know better. I think he would've been a perfect fit, but what do you think?

Putting aside the personality issues, which we've debated around here numerous times, I've never thought of Ry as enough of a straight-up rock guy to fit with the Stones.

There's also the issue of Ry claiming Keith stole from him, from a article (link posted below)
Ry Cooder is officially credited with playing mandolin on Love In Vain, slide guitar on Sister Morphine, as well as contributing to the soundtrack of "Performance". This includes the guitar work on Jagger's first solo effort: Memo From Turner. Cooder was a much heavier influence on the Stones than the credits might indicate. It's no coincidence that Richards real focus on open G tuning coincides with the Cooder's "Let It Bleed" session work with the Stones. There was friction between session man Cooder and Rolling Stone Richards which played out in Richards not showing up for "Let It Bleed" sessions. This ultimately led to studio jams with the Stones, Cooder, and Nicky Hopkins and a record documenting all this called "Jamming With Edward".

This is what I meant by the personality conflict, which has been debated ad infinitum.

No one can play slide like Cooder IMO.

He wouldnt have fit, though.

We had a similar thread here two months ago

Thank God, he didn't "fit" with the Stones..

I'm afraid we wouldn't have gotten all his brilliant works to enjoy if he had...

No doubt JWE is fun at times. No Keith on it though, and when you compare it to even the shoddiest Stones' outtakes of the ERA, it's still meh. Love me some Ry, but as others have said, he's not rock and roll-enough for TRS.
