I was out at my local Pub and they had a bagpipe band which actually was annoying because it was so loud but charming in an Irish way. So we ate the corned beef and cabbage, potato soup, with Irish soda bread. I passed on the Green Beer.
Joke: Whats the shortest cookbook in the world?
Answer: The Irish cookbook! They only have 2 recipes, Corned Beef & Cabbage or Irish Stew!
Sorry Gazza (and fellow Irish people), but you gotta admit, compared to the Italians, Spainish or Greek cuisine, the Irish cookbook is notably short! The Irish beer selection, however, is much more extensive than the others! Shows you where the Irish have their priorities ~ Drinking is more important than eating!
The latter is a bit of a stereotype to be honest. Its a bit like saying the French only eat snails! Compared to the Russians, we're amateurs.
The cookbook myth baffles me. I've NEVER seen corned beef and cabbage on a menu anywhere. If you come to Ireland and see them in a restaurant, then I can only assume its there to pander to tourists who dont know any better.
Must be one of those American re-inventions of St Patricks Day!
