What was the most "Brian" led song?

What Stones song (or songs) would say are really driven by Brian? What would you say his best moment or moments in the band was?

For me, Paint It Black, Lady Jane, 2000 Light-Years from Home and No Expectations are Brian songs. Regardless of official writing credits, I do not believe those four songs especially (and many others) would not have been what they were without Brian. I REALLY doubt Keith would've ever said "Hey, let's add a sitar here!" or "Let's add a hammered dulcimer there!" or "Let's put in a mellotoron in this part." Despite his status as overall "LEADER of the band " declining, I do believe that from 1965-1967, Brian was the musical leader of the Stones, or at least, a leading "voice" in the band.

All excellent choices...Smiley Even "The Last Time" had prominent Brian guitar parts. And "Mona".

I agree that Brian was the flavor and "soul" of the band in those early years....those songs wouldn't be nearly the masterpieces they are without his musical vision and input!

I think that must be "Under my thumb", where Brian plays the marimba. He also plays it on "Out of time". The first one is still one of my Stones favorites from the old days. The second one has a really great version by Chris Farlowe, one of my favorite Stones covers.

It's all covered here for me, the only other one is "Let's Spend the Night Together" the piano makes the song, I can play this on guitar, but nothing like that rolling piano.

Love the song, but highly doubtful it was Brian on accordion...

PIB is a great example of Brian's coloring, but it does little more than mimic what's already there.  For true leading I would go with Ruby Tuesday, hands down.

I don't think that's Brian on piano, although he pretended to play it on several TV shows. I think that's actually Jack Nitzsche on the record.

I think everything he did in 1966 was golden. That's my favorite Stones era.

I think that credit is an assumption/piece of guess work rather than something arrived at via facts. I've yet to read or hear anyone from the band or related to the recording session etc ever saying Brian played accordion on it.

Someone knows someone who works at ABKCO,  lol so granny gossip like, who say's that he was told that Brian did not play accordion on the track, but they would not name the player as they were intending to come out with a book about such things... Or something like that.  Smiley

Also, there's no organ on the track, but these sites just seem to keep copying and re stating the same instrumentation even when they are clearly wrong.

Brian only plays organ on that and it's mixed out for most of the song.  After hearing the Satanic Sessions bootleg CD's I understand why... Clunkers all over the place.   Nanker

There really needs to be a Brian bio that definitively establishes what he played where.

Who is that playing that "Tyrolean"-sounding guitar break on "Sittin' on a Fence"?

There seems to be a big divide between two camps here..........
I don't know that much about Brian's influence or lack of on the Stones in the beginning.
Here is how I feel, He started it, and they Mick and Keith took the start and Improve or took off with it. Without him it may not of ever happened.........
I guess we got alot to thank him for......
I remember my cousin who turned me on to the Stones saying pointing to Brian.....He started it...........But these two (point to Mick and Keith) are the two that are the Leaders  of the Band. They write the tunes........I think he meant looking back on it now..............going to (finish it!)

Sorry I did not mention  this before............
stu-smiling
Who I feel kept them Mick and Keith directed during their run........ to his untimely death......
I kind of feel that was an incredile lost for this band.
Not let the beatings begin.
