While poking around youtube searching for unfamiliar music, I stumbled upon Shuggie Otis. Listened to this cats tunes and was impressed. So I googled him and read his wiki profile. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shuggie_Otis

This is where it gets interesting:

n 1974, Otis released "Inspiration Information", his third and final album for Epic Records. The album had taken almost three years to finish. All the songs were written and arranged by Otis himself, who played almost exclusively every musical instrument on the album (except for horns and various stringed instruments). However, despite its long-awaited impact, "Inspiration Information" had but one single (the title track) reach the Billboard Top 200. After the album's release, Otis was approached by Billy Preston on behalf of The Rolling Stones, asking him to join the band for their upcoming world tour. He declined the offer, along with the chance to work with Quincy Jones in helping produce Otis's next album. After a series of similar refusals, Otis gained the reputation of 'taking his time', and his recording contract with Epic Records was nullified. Otis' only credited works throughout the mid-1970s were done as a session musician for his father's recording projects.

To those who already knew this, kudos to you. So this is what I learned today Smiley

My fellow music admirer, yes it is always so interesting learning new music and its genesis/derivation.  And most of it seems to revolve around the Rolling Stones.

Gypsy, as I recall, knew of this Shuggie Otis.

Brothers Johnson were looming large in black areas of Pittsburgh, circa late 70s.  My intro.  Love it, love it, love it!

Shuggie Otis!!
I was turned on to Shuggie about 15 years ago...thre have been some great remixes and stuff done by DJs with his stuff and  the fellow who ran my LRS lent me a bunch of Shuggie's stuff so I could hear the originals...
Brilliant, creative stuff.
Need to dig it all out soon...so much packed away because of a big move this past year.
Thanks for reminding me.

Oh...and I DID NOT know about the slight RS connection...interesting indeed!!
