There wasnt anywhere near enough of it on the last one.

All due respect Gazza. Given the fact that Mick and Keith can't even decide to appear at a decent blues tribute together on their 50 th anniversary. Do you really think we'll get anything significantly different on the tour? Can't imagine this is going to be anything else than one more cash grab. War horses couldn't drag me away

Stupid idea. Mick used to make fun of people in and around The White House. Folks in The White House didn't want Mick there and he didn't want to be there. Now he decides to become more like Bono and play there. Stupid and it's just another thing that goes completely against what he has always represented.... Mick is becoming more and more like Elton John every other month it seems. As I said... another really "gay" move there Mick (..."gay" representing stupid and lame not homosexual in any form)

Ian

Are you being serious? You are talking about "Sir" Mick Jagger right, the guy who hobnobbed with Princess Margaret in Mustique, the guy who is very much part of the establishment. He never really played that whole anti-establishment thing (that was Andrew Oldham's thing in the media and the Stones played it up a little bit). He's always been very straight and proper in that regard and so has Keith for that matter. The media just make up a bunch of crap. More like Bono? How is that? I don't see Mick having causes like erasing debt in Africa. He does his charity stuff and quietly at that so how on earth is he like Bono?

The gay thing is always a cop out. Whenever people say that they always say, like that sage Eminem, that it's gay as in stupid not homosexual, well then why don't you just say lame or stupid. The meaning of gay, ironically, is happy and bright so apart from the cop out, it seems an odd choice. And then Elton John + gay = not very convincing argument there Ian.

It's funny, we always want them to do more blues, but when he does, he gets criticized. I, for one, am thrilled. Because he does these awful guest appearances with garbage like Will I Am people forget that he's a blues player at heart. And what people also ignore is that out of all the Stones, the one who can hold his own on an equal footing with blues greats more than any other is Mick. Maybe Charlie as well but when Mick plays the blues and rhythm and blues, he shows the world the true giant of music that he is.

_________________________________

Mick Jagger ALREADY did his part (and then some) on educating the world of blues music... he joined The Rolling Stones and influenced all the other rock bands to incorporate the blues into their music over the past 45 -50 years. The young crows actually took notice and listened to these groups. That was plenty .. .. . mission accomplished -

Yes I know Mick had his high class crowd he always could hang with. Yes I knew he always had that side. Yet he was also a little devil in him on the other side of the coin. Now he is just trying to be ALL high class and no little devil... the devil we all knew and loved for being it.. Mick Jagger -

As for the "gay" comment... I used "lame" ...and "weak" on several occasions... now the latest catch phrase is "gay" in order to drive such a point home. I didn't explain that I did not mean "happy" because that was a given...not did I mean it in any sort of homosexual way... but I felt I must explain since I am not sure that catch phrase has spread to the UK yet when using it in a fashion to mean "stupid" or "lame". Thats all - Its just the latest and when its not used in that context I will possibly be using the next catch phrase. No homosexual bashing here..

'Mission accomplished' ? We've heard that term used prematurely before.

Its not working. The genre is all but dead commercially. The community that spawned it isn't interested anymore. And looking at the sort of audience that goes to Stones concerts, most of them probably wouldn't know the blues if it bit them up the arse. It's piss break material for most of them. The band are conscious of this - which is probably why they hardly ever bothered playing any of it last time out.

Maybe its time Mick tried to re-educate the clueless masses.

Mick Jagger is working and singing the sort of music he does best. Even for a few minutes. The problem with that is what, exactly?

There is NO problem with ANY of this, and speaking as an American, I'm proud to have a first family which even knows what the Blues is, let alone celebrating it in the White House.  Furthermore, they picked a fairly good batch of people to represent the genre. I can't wait to hear what Mick sings!

Thanks for the link, is this ground for WW4 (or is it WW5, anyone still keeping tabs?)

Quote:
Mick Jagger:
Rock's premier frontman and one of the most popular and influential musicians of all time, Jagger is the instantly recognizable iconic lead singer and songwriter for the Rolling Stones. He has captivated audiences for decades with his dynamic stage presence. He is also a prolific and much sought-after collaborator and a successful producer and solo artist. In his early teens, Jagger discovered his passion for American Blues, which continue to influence his music to this day.

Pretty laughable (how do instantly recognize a "songwriter" ?!) and I'm not sure who's really sought him out as a collaborator other than Keith but I can see the "twin" getting "miffed" once more...if only because he's uninvited when he's the true bluesman, the guy who lived on the edge, who lives for the fans, etc...

As of this evening, neither Mick or L'Wren have flt reservations from LGA-DCA...from a VERY reliable source...but they are still checking for me.
Do they use alias's when flying? I don't believe they are permitted...but there is still such thing as VIP treatment in the air these days.

I also asked my friend who is the head of IT in he White House to request The President to inquire about the 50th...
I will report on that if it indeed happens to get asked.

>>>Gazz ..come on here now... Almost every rock / rock and roll band in the last forty years has at least followed The Rolling Stones lead to a certain degree in investigating or playing it and / or basing a large influence of rhythm and blues in their style. Many, many were successful acts (Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, The Black Crows, even Guns n Roses to a degree .. to name but a few of the bigger acts). People heard them loud and clear. Kids bought their albums by the masses and the rest is history. The Rolling Stones have long since brought  blues influence to the main stream music and any hard rock style. They were the main band who pioneerd that, and introduced it to pop music as you already know. Sadly now-a-days... popular and main stream music went far beyond this (and also went far lower in quality ). Possibly one day main stream acts will get back to it... but Mick has already long since introduced blues to the masses, mate. With respect, but remember... He's in "The Rolling Stones"... the band that pioneered it and brought that kind of music out and incorporated it into hard rock. Sure that segment is over as far as popular music is concerned but so is Beethoven and his style. However people know it's there. People know what it sounds like. If they are interested they will pick it up ... same with The Blues. It isn't like nobody knows of this style... geesh

___________________________________________________

Gazza: Its not working. The genre is all but dead commercially.

>> Yeah... and what is Mick Jagger playing The White House going to do to even slightly change any of that?? Playing it at The White House certainly isn't the way to go about it. I have news for everyone... nobody gives a flying shit about what folks at the White House are interested in, listen to, promote, or play as far as music is concerned. In fact ... it's more over a turn off and anything culturally that goes on in that group of people seems uncool. I do not necessarily agree I am simply just sayin. I mean whats next... are The Stones and Donnie and Marie Osmond going to do a show together for everyone?

______________________________________

Gazza: The community that spawned it isn't interested anymore.

>>>Well yes... sure. But a group of elder age musicians playing at the White House is never going to interest anybody much... ESPECIALLY the younger crowd who happen to be a big part of the commercial equation. In fact ... the whole damn concept of a musician playing at The White House looks rather geeky to them so it will only make the genre seem that much more "uncool". It actually may hurt things as far as the 25 and under crowd more than it will gain their interest or get them to take notice of the genre.

_________________________________________________

Gazza: And looking at the sort of audience that goes to Stones concerts, most of them probably wouldn't know the blues if it bit them up the arse. It's piss break material for most of them.

>>Not true.  Half of their audience is 40-60 years old. They appreciate American rythm and blues much more than any of the younger crowd these days and their die-hards simply love it.

________________________________________________

GAZZA: Mick Jagger is working and singing the sort of music he does best. Even for a few minutes. The problem with that is what, exactly?

>>The problem is he looks like a sell-out more and more each year doing these type of things. There was a time in the 60's and 70's Mick would of damn well knew not to go about things this way... and guess what he DID introduce that kind of music to the masses as far as popular music is concerned and he didn't do it by playing it at The White House. Since when has anything like this scenario worked?? You can't "make" someone, the masses, or the industry interested in something. They already know that music exists and they have at-least heard bits and pieces of it. In time, if they have brains they will listen to it. If not, oh well... their loss. You gotta let them come to it on their own. In time... they will. However playing songs at The White House just makes any genre seem that much more tacky and uncool.

The White house would never have a Rollling Stone play music there before. What's next? The whole group plays there at The White House?? It's just looked at as kina "uncool" here in The States. Take my word on it. Why do you think everyone constantly  makes fun of Bono for getting involved in these White House gatherings (though his motives are political... it still is looked at as really uncool and tacky).  I don't want Mick stripped down to that level .. ( I can't believe Dylan actually did it too.. )

Bottom line is Mick only further continues to tarnish his reputation rather than this being looked at with any sort of interest. What a turn-off. Possibly he and Donnie and Marie Osmond will do a few songs with Bono making a go at it with a harmonica.. ..

"Uncool"- those times seemed to have passed a long time ago. He accepted a bloody knighthood and has as much in common with the world he grew up in as Bill Wyman does with Mother Theresa. Don't forget, we live in a society where old rockers get their own pathetic reality shows and before Bob Dylan played at the White House, he appeared on a lame Wyclef Jean video. All of the Stones passed that "uncool" threshold ages ago. Justin Timberlake anyone.

I'm excited that Jeff Beck is there. Maybe they'll do something together again.

What the man said. I'm bewildered as to how anyone in 2012 can just have suddenly realised that its not 1967 anymore and the Stones havent been 'dangerous' for well over a generation. They pretty much invented 'corporate rock' for goodness sake.

Well I look forward to watching it.  If Mick can leave his pop singing voice behind and remember his "roots" he will do us proud.  We know all those oldsters on the agenda can sing the blues, but I am really interested in watching the future of blues....
