I like Led Zep myself, but it's amazing how many songs were not credited to the original, some even sound exactly like the original, & in the case of "Dazed & Confused" the same title, although the Yardbirds changed it to "I'm Confused" later on.

I know many rock fans will find this blasphemous but Led Zeppelin are just mind numbingly boring for me. Not only do I not care if they're on but I'll often turn off the radio if one of their songs come on. Too much bashing and screeching for my liking. The musicianship of Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones is always enjoyable but I've never understood why Zeppelin are regarded by most rock fans as far more influential than the Stones.

Nice Eddie Murphy reference. I am neither punky nor grungy and if 1990 happens to refer to the year of your birth, you are the same age as my son. I have loved Zeppelin since the late 70s, and was all set to see the 1980 U.S. tour that ended up not happening obviously. But the fact is they made millions in songwriting royalties that belonged to others, many of whom were blues legends, especially Willie Dixon. I fail to see what that has to do with hipsters or Cobain, who never really moved me. piss off

Exactly. Except for rare cases like Miles Davis, purveyors of "race music" hardly made any money at all. Lonnie Johnson, one of the great early blues guitarists, was found by Prestige Records working as a janitor in a Philadelphia hotel. The bought him a new guitar, brought him into the studio and he cut a record in a day, which I have. According to the liner notes, he was back with the broom that night. Point is, songwriting royalties meant a hell of a lot to some of those seminal musicians who could really have used the money, much more than some English dandies in their 20s who were already rich and on the road to being richer.
