Rolling Stones Mick Jagger and Keith Richards will reportedly foot the cost of the funeral for blues legend Huburt Sumlin, the lead guitarist for Howlin' Wolf who died Sunday at a Wayne hospital. Sumlin, who had been living in Totowa, suffered heart failure. He was 80.

"God bless the Rolling Stones," writes Sumlin's longtime manager and caretaker Toni Ann Mamary, according to media reports. She says that Jagger and Richards "insisted" on paying for the funeral. A viewing will be held Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Festa Memorial Funeral Home, 111 Union Blvd., in Totowa, and a public service will be at 10 a.m. Monday. He will be buried in a private service in Illinois on Tuesday.

Richards, who played on Sumlin's 2004 album "About Them Shoes," called Sumlin "an uncle and a teacher, and all the guitar players must feel the same as myself." Jagger wrote on his Facebook page, “Hubert was an incisive yet delicate blues player. He had a really distinctive and original tone and was a wonderful foil for Howlin’ Wolf’s growling vocal style. On a song like “Goin’ Down Slow” he could produce heart-rending emotion, and on a piece like “Wang Dang Doodle” an almost playful femininity. He was an inspiration to us all.”
