I confess I can't get my head around this. Keith said nothing -- nothing -- in that book that he hadn't said before. Really the only halfway-novel bit of news was that Keith is no longer confrontational, but rather sad: He misses his friend. He wishes they could hang out in the dressing room sometimes.

Why is this WWIII again?

There is something else going on. Maybe Mick believes that Keith is a total wreck of a guitar player nowadays, and doesn't bring nearly enough material to the songwriting table. Maybe he's too polite to say this publicly. Maybe it's Ronnie he doesn't feel like dealing with anymore. Maybe it's some combination of the two. Maybe post-brain-trauma Keith is not physically able to tour for any length -- something else they'd all like to keep quiet.

I just don't buy that Mick's feelings are hurt, and he's taking his ball home.

C'mon, Mel. That's the same whole-lotta-nothing we've been seeing for weeks.
Mick's promoting SuperHeavy, so he's pooh-poohed the day job talk. Hell, he's used that "popping out of a cake in drag" joke more than once.

Ronnie says Keith's working on "his" album, and as several posters pointed out, the context of that meeting comment changes completely when punctuated correctly.
BTW, that piece was also posted here.

Charlie said last week - "I guess if we agree, we'll do some concerts...I doubt we'll do a tour."

The Stones sky ain't falling just yet...

Hope you're right, lefty.

But if Ronnie can only "wish" they had a great meeting, clearly something's not right. Otherwise, they'd say, "Nothing's set in stone, but we had a constructive conversation. Let's see what next year brings ... blah blah blah."

Actually, it appears that Ronnie *did* say "We had a great meeting." Not: "I wish we could say we had a great meeting."

Love that period!

Didn't see the Charlie interview where he said they'd just do some shows but not a tour next year. Now that sounds ominous. Not the Stones MO at all. Doo'h

Thanks Ginda. Don't know if it's Charlie being coy. But reading the exact quote makes it even more ominous. Doesn't sound like a lot of enthusiam on Mr Watts part.

I think the biggest issue is the failing U.S. economy and high fuel prices. Stones, Inc. has always had eyes on the profit, and not a lot of people can afford tickets. I've been watching ticket prices start out high for some artists and within weeks the price is down to 20-40 bucks.

Diidn't stop U2...
no excuses, you either tour or you don't... I don't why, they can strip it down make it more streamlined, do less markets and ore gigs in big markets ect... the bottom line will be there... if they have inside issues, that's a big whatever for me... if a bunch of 70 year old have resentments, and can;t get over them, so be it... otherwise, and what my POV is... this is more same old same old media bullshit, making another end of the band story...

That and the fact that Mick probably realizes that he's now got enough money for generations to come and that he doesn't want to waste his remaining good years dealing with Keith and Ronnie anymore.

Remember that live questions feed for the 2006 euro tour where he appeared to be terribly embarassed by Keith's nonsense, apoligizing profusely for him? Or in Shine a Light when Keith's goofing around on Faraway Eyes (?) and Mick races towards him to make him cut the crap?

I say good for him, brave decision.

I think it's a combination of what was stated and the book.  The book was just the last straw.  I don't know if Ronnie even factors into it - he seems to be in fine form.  I wonder if Keith really does want to try and tour.  I don't think he does - hence the remarks.  He's just too stubborn to admit it.

How many more times are you going to ask?
Apparently no one was interested the previous half dozen times either.

Might be time to upgrade to the Schtickometer 2000.
Not only does it come with some desperately needed new material, but more importantly, an "OFF" switch.

Time to fall back and reload, scl.  Your ammo is wet.  Joey has his own thread.  People don't have to read IT,  but this is not his thread.  There was an actual discussion taking place when he wandered in.
