Alert Board Moderator about this Post!
It's on it's way, according to an e-mail I got from Badlands record store two days ago advertising the Texas '78 DVD.

And now Mick is talking about it on German TV whilst doing his SuperHeavy promotional interviews. There will be ten previously unreleased songs :

Complete 17-minute interview from Gernany's ZDF here :

http://www.highwire-therollingstones.de/
http://www.zdf.de/ZDFmediathek/beitrag/video/1434976/Exklusiv-Mick-Jagger-zu-Sup...

Many thanks to HighwireC for sharing it

This hasnt been a bad week so far, eh?

Exactly. 'Sides that, the interview was to promote SuperHeavy.
Mick's shrewd and savvy enough to ensure that the focus was kept there.

Affirmation of future Stones plans would've generated global headlines and instantly relegated SH to the back burner...

The most interesting thing he said during this interview is when he summarized the band members in 1962 and asked Charlie when he joined the band (which was 1963, if I remember correctly). So maybe according to Mick this would mean they should do the anniversary tour in 2013. This would give them another year to make a complete new album. This is probably wishfull thinking from my point of view. As much as I love to see them touring again, I really hope they will take another year to make an incredible album and then go out to hit the world. That really would be something.

Bit of goalpost-moving in that case considering they commemorated their 40th anniversary in 2002.

Leaving five years between tours at this stage in their careers is bad enough. Six years would be idiocy.

Theres no reason why they cant make a new record in time for a tour next summer. Theyve done it on that timescale several times before.

However, in the next few months, there'll be a Some Girls Deluxe and a 'new' career-spanning retrospective. I honestly think a new album is unlikely as a) it would be flooding the market and b) there isnt really the hunger for it amongst the band or their target audience.

I think you're more likely to see a tour starting next summer, running to summer 2013, and taking place on the back of another greatest hits release, which will include a few new songs.

More importantly, so is Claudine Longet.

An absolute non-starter to release that one.

'Fiji Jim' was re-done in 1993 with new vocals as a potential Voodoo Lounge b-side (as was 'So Young', which they eventually used), so there must be a good chance that it'll be released.

There is still plenty of time for a new album. Especially, if their is some material already written, or worked on. They still have a year = still ample time as you noted.

However, in the next few months, there'll be a Some Girls Deluxe and a 'new' career-spanning retrospective. I honestly think a new album is unlikely as a) it would be flooding the market and b) there isnt really the hunger for it amongst the band or their target audience.

_______________________________

I can't see them doing an exact repeat of the 2002-2003 Licks concept. The Stones and their camp/management/promoters are smart enough to realize that slating to do basically an exact repeat of something that strangely, doesn't seem like that long ago could be a stale business move. They have to come up with something a bit different to at least keep the media, and fans truly interested.

I'd still go as far to say that they will do a new album. Keith has stated a few times that he is definitely interested in getting The Stones back in the studio and Mick has also stated The Rolling Stones will do more records. I take that as in he meant ...recording new albums... who wouldn't? Besides, Mick will want to keep The Stones on the side of being a productive band, more than simply another touring nostalgia act as opposed to Fleetwood Mac or The Eagles as much as possible (whether they truly are, are not is not the point...the point is that he's the lead singer, and final call person and he never wanted The Stones to be put into that category).

I think this is going to be another grand scale tour and it will come with a release of ample new material in one form or another?... I think perhaps this time the new material will, some how be released in a slightly different schedule or different package than before. Just not sure how they are going to do it (most probably, this is their very last "major international extravaganza"... Yep, even I, must finally, after all these years admit my recent opinion. There is a chance they may do things as a group and continue even after this...possibly? However, this is going to be the last stadium hoping, year or year and a half long major undertaking for them.  The guys are basically 70 years old...how could it "not be" the last "huge", grand scale, big project and international trek for them..?).

Tall order, Ian.

2012 will see UMG release the Some Girls Deluxe AND  a career-spanning retrospective. Both of those will be at least double-disc releases.  That doesn't leave a lot of room for a release that not only would mean the most work but which there isn't exactly much demand for.

Mick and Keith parroting the usual party line about being a current band means nothing. The lack of new output since 1997 tells you everything you need to know. Why by this time people continue to take that at face value never ceases to amaze.

What do you expect them to say? Admit that they've little urge to create new material, that they've little interest in performing it, and acknowledge that they're a nostalgia act?

Don't see that anyone's stated anything to suggest they'll repeat the Licks tour 'concept'. If, by that you mean the three types of shows with three types of setlists theme.

If you mean the 'greatest hits' sets however that they did on the Licks stadium shows, then they've already repeated it. They called it the 'Bigger Bang' tour.

Have you seen that confirmed recently or is it the info I've been rehashing for years after reading that in an old AOL Mick interview that I never found again? According to Manoeuvre in the 12/93 edition of Rock'N'Folk (or was it the one were he covered the VL PR ?) Mick had rerecorded 6 six songs at a NY studio (Record Plan ?) to be used as extra tracks for the Virgin releases. Nothing was ever heard of that again...

No - nothing new. Just based on the same info thats been around for several years.

Of course, we've no info on whats going to be ON the Some Girls Deluxe - just pointing out that there's no need to rework Fiji Jim as they did it already many years ago.

Zentgraf lists 'So Young' as having been reworked in LA in early 1994, but doesnt mention any other songs that were done in similar fashion.

It "is" a tall order... however, a meeting this soon would easily mean they are setting dates and a time scale. If it was simply to state the obvious, that of touring next year, there would be absolutely no need to fly to London and "meet" this early. They could easily agree to that by phone. Keith has been in London for a while... he lives in Connecticut. What is the guy doing there lately?.. .. .. Something is going on fo-sho.

The reason they all met, openly, front door entrance and all is to start the hype a brewing. They are not stupid, and as well they have met several times in the past and nobody photographed a thing and many times we had absolutely no idea until weeks/months after the fact. This so called meeting of them was quite purposeful in letting us know they are doing something.

There is no reason to "tease" a waiting fan-base, and draw media attention this early if it were only concerning a tour next summer or fall. It is their way of saying... "we got something cooking". That something, by this time frame, is most likely plans to record an album... otherwise there would be no reason to tease us this early. Remember the tour is next summer at the earliest and most likely a year away next fall...

Remember, take note of their history, they only give us a spotting of all of them together at a meeting, if they are working on something major. If it were only a tour next year this meeting would be far too early to prompt that. If it were about a Some Girls re-issue... there would be no need to have public meeting over it. If it were concerning a greatest hits package there would be no need for a meeting.

They were "purposefully letting us know" they have/or are planning on starting something major quite soon. That something, based on their recent comments and the earliness of this meeting, would almost certainly mean it has to be an album... Otherwise, what do you equate the openess of the meeting for. It sure as shinola wasn't one of their top secret affairs...

_________________________________________

Because every tour in the past thirty years had them in the studio and releasing brand new studio recorded product for a tour is why. Every tour had an album to coincide. The only one that didn't was the 2002-2003 Licks extravaganza... but even then they "insisted" on going into the studio and recording and releasing some new songs to prove that they are not a nostalgia act. They certainly didn't have to do that. Why waste a few weeks time effort and work when it isn't needed at all? They could of more than easily filled the gaps on four slots with other songs from their catalog already recorded and or released. The reason is they do not want to be classified as a nostalgia act. That's why. Sure they havent put out but two albums from 97 on...but they toured only three times. Two out of those three times they released a brand new studio album and the other time they insisted on recoding and releasing new stuff. Plain and simple.. They will not go the route of being a nostalgia act. They will remain The Stones until the end.

I will ask you this... you act as if their is no little to no indication they will do another album this time... Well what indication have they given us that they will not? Everything in their track record, recent comments, and this recent and quite early early and purposefully leaked band meeting lends to the fact that they most likely will...

Ian

Ian. They were meeting to discuss their plans for 2012. Ie, a tour. I really dont know how to spell it out for you any clearer than that. But thats what it was. If you're suggesting that they'll be announcing dates soon, then I think you'll need to hold your breath for a while, though.

They dont have 'secret meetings'. There's simply no reason to announce a band meeting to the press.
