A tour in the pipeline? Rolling Stones make rare appearance together sparking rumours of a new project

By Alanah Eriksen
8th September 2011

With Mick Jagger's new band and Keith Richard's autobiography, the Rolling Stones barely have time for new projects together.

But the ageing rockers made a rare appearance together yesterday, sparking rumours a new tour or album was in the pipeline.

Frontman Mick, 68, guitarists Keith, 67, and Ronnie Wood, 64, and drummer Charlie Watts, 70, were spotted leaving an office in London.

...
What now? Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, flanked by a burly bodyguard,
leaves an office in London after meeting with his three bandmates, sparking rumours
a new tour might be in the pipeline

And the band still showed they had star power, nearly 50 years after they were formed by Mick, Keith and former members Brian Jones and Ian Stewart.

A fan was seen smiling enthusiastically as he touched Ronnie Wood on the shoulder as he was ushered into a waiting car.

A photographer is seen snapping away.

Ronnie, who was in The Jeff Beck Group and Faces with Rod Stewart, still refused to dress his age, donning a velvet blue blazer paired with skinny black jeans.

...
Celebrities: The band still showed they had star power, with a fan touching Ronnie Wood
and a photographer taking his picture as he is ushered into a waiting car

Keith joined his bandmate in the young-dressing stakes, donning one of his trademark headscarves underneath a stylish hat.

He was flanked by a burly tattooed man, thought to be his bodyguard.

Mick wasn't dressed like his usual flamboyant self, wearing a simple navy blazer, jeans and sneakers.

And Charlie also opted for casual-wear.

... ...
Start Me Up: Frontman Mick Jagger, who has started his own band, and drummer
Charlie Watts also leave the office

Rumours circulated in May that talks over plans for a 50th anniversary tour and album next year had broken down amid Mick's launch of a new 'supergroup'.

SuperHeavy includes singer Joss Stone, Bob Marley's son Damian, Eurythmics star Dave Stewart and A.R. Rahman, the Indian musician and composer who won two Oscars for Slumdog Millionaire.

Jagger was also said to be furious over the way he was ridiculed in Richards’ best-selling autobiography, Life

The memoir, which Keith was paid £4.3million in advance for, has sold more than a million copies.

Meanwhile all 17 of the Rolling Stones performances on The Ed Sullivan Show are to be released on November 1.

It includes several performances that have never been released, including their final appearance on the variety show on November. 23, 1969.

Andrew Solt, of Sofa Entertainment, said: 'The best Rolling Stones TV performances are on these shows.

'On the concert films and on other shows you don't get the same production values, and here the sound is as good as the visuals.

'Groups knew they would appear in front of 35 million people so they rehearsed and made sure they would look good before doing on. Knowing they were playing live on TV made them do their best.'

Except for the minor detail that they weren't 'playing live'. They sang over backing tracks.

Well, well, well....this will give us something to watch and talk about!  Certainly agree with the comments regarding Mick's hair.  Also that it looks like the sweater is wrapped around something.

I'm wondering what the aforementioned burly bodyguard for Keith is carrying in that large leather bag.

They met!  Finally!

Yes, yes, yes!  If they were just signing on the dotted line for the re-releases there would be no need for all four of them to be in the room at the same time.  So, they discussed something........
please let it be a tour!  You rock!

Why would they be expected to be laughing (or even smiling) at the very moment where a photographer takes the best shot he can get out of what could be several pictures? They could be suppressing a fart  Stinky post or have the wind in their faces for all we know.

There doesnt appear to have been any blood on the ground and the police weren't called. Which is a good start!

Try IORR. Some people over there are assuming that theyre meeting to dissolve the band. Or interpreting the fact that Charlie's the only one smiling as meaning they wont be touring again.

Oh no! not you again

Maybe one of them will do Ronnie's radio show like he has said they have told him they will do. Mick and Keith never do these things though. They always say things but in the end are rarely bothered. They're probably too busy falling over their money. Come on, we have to be a little negative to give some context. When they meet, they almost always tour. It's when they're never in the same room that there are real problems.

They meet every year. Its a sort of AGM and a business plan combined. They met around November/December 2010.

Coincidentally or not, just yesterday Pierre de Beauport (Keith's guitar guy) cryptically posted "It's On!" as his facebook status message - a remark which led to a few comments from people on his friends list interpreting it as breaking news on a Stones tour.

A few hours later he removed the comment, which would suggest to me he realised he should have kept quiet or else someone told him to do so.

Oh well, if there were any doubts about the content of their meeting, I think this pretty much clears things up. Too fitting to be a coincidence!

Amazing how much of a toll looking after Ronnie for years on end can have on a bodyguard.

I saw that guy on the last tour and he only looked about 40!

Yay!  I think the Rolling Stones should give all the ROCKSOFF members front row tickets to one of their concerts!

Plus, Micky should invite me on stage to sing a duet or two with him and the band!

JUST KIDDING!

Rolling Stones Fuel Tour Rumors With London Meeting

All four members photographed leaving the same building

By Andy Greene
September 8, 2011

...
Mick Jagger leaves a London office after meeting with
Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood.

All four members of the Rolling Stones were photographed exiting a building in London yesterday (9/7), fueling rumors that the band is planning a 50th anniversary tour for 2012. The band is unlikely to confirm anything for the foreseeable future, partially because Mick Jagger wants all attention focused on his new band SuperHeavy. The Stones haven't played together since their Bigger Bang tour wrapped in August of 2007. When we asked Jagger about a possible Stones tour this past May he just chuckled. "I don't have any announcement to make at the moment," he said. "I'm just, uh, ya know…just doing this [SuperHeavy] right now."

We're putting this out to our readers: What do you think Jagger is holding in that photo? We think he probably saw that there were photographers outside and covered something up in a purple towel – but what?

Not much feedback from the RS readers, but this drew a laugh - "Hot water bottle- The guy's almost 70."

Wondering if they didn't wan't to be seen in public, why didn't they meet at night, or in secret, like they've done many times.

LOL. Maybe it's a camera. He's often filming during the preparations for a tour, so it can be used in a documentary. So maybe, in a couple of years, in a documentary about the last Stones worldtour ever, we can see Keith apologize to Mick for being such an asshole for all these years and thank Mick that he always was a gentleman (in public) concerning other Stonesmembers, and admit that thanks to Mick they have made it for 50 years. Nevertheless, still love Keith, and hope for a decent "Little T&A" this tour. But that's wishfull thinking!

My guess is yes, they will record a new studio album (however possibly it shall be released and as well made available in a "new" way... some how?...? hmmm?) because IMO 1. They would not want to exactly repeat 2002-2003 Licks concept 2. They never wanted to be touted as a touring Nostalgia act....why would they start that role now? 3. Mick and Keith have mentioned getting into the studio with The Stones and/or doing more records with The Stones a few times within the past several months.

Thats not 'negativity'. It's realism. I apologise for thinking that a Rolling Stones album in 2012 will not be a massive seller, or that their record label would be more focussed on their back catalogue, seeing as thats why they signed them in the first place added to the fact that they already have two multi-disc releases earmarked for 2012.

The fact that I would prefer a studio album means nothing.

You seem to live in a fantasy world, Ian, where you prefer to take selected quotes by Mick and Keith over a period of years at face value. Some of us just happen to be more realistic.

By the way, can you direct me to these recent interviews with Mick where he talked about making a new Stones record?

What makes you convinced that they 'didnt want to be seen in public' ?

When did they 'meet in secret' ?

Having a business meeting with fellow band members is something they do at least once a year when theyre not working. Its not as if they need to issue a press release announcing that they'll be in the same building.

Mick talks 'Some Girls', meeting talk and RS50 with Spinner:

What do you have planned with the Stones right now?

I just finished off doing all the outtakes for the 'Some Girls' album we're releasing at Thanksgiving. We did 'Exile,' we did a lot of different takes, a lot of different cuts that hadn't come out before, so we're doing the similar kind of thing with 'Some Girls,' so I've just been doing them because a lot of them weren't complete, so I had to complete them, and then we're gonna mix those and put them out for Thanksgiving. Then we talked about maybe what events are going to be going around for the 50th anniversary of the Rolling Stones. We don't really know the answer to that, but we talked about it a bit.

Does it blow your mind that the anniversary is coming up?

It sounds a lot of years to me. But you know, you're very lucky to have been doing it that long, so I guess I should be happy [laughs].

Mick is holding a book tha Keith gave him to read.

Mick and Keith are business partners and friends. They have known each other for 40+ years, and I doubt there is anything that happens between them that is surprising, including Keith's book and Mick's new group. They both recognize that the Rolling Stones is a world wide brand and they aren't going to do anything to hurt the brand. If you go to ther offical Rolling Stone site you find Keith's book and then new group quite promantely on it. If Mick was pissed at Keith or vise versa none of that would be on their web site. I would not surprise me in the least if all this "book controversey" isn't planned as a way to keep the brand in  the news as will as Mick's Super group. I understand that Keith's book might become a movie, don't be surprised if Jagged Pictures has a hand in that endevor, maybe behind the scenes, but they will be involved in some way.

I hope they at least produce one more album and maybe a short tour.

Everyone is spinning the conversation...

I never said that there was a great demand for a new Stones album. I never said their record label wouldn't be more focused on their back catalog. I never said nostalgia wasn't a big part of their act.

All I am saying is I believe they will write, record, and release a new album. Why? .. because basically every tour for the past 35 years has had one. They didn't need to release an album last time either. Licks was plenty successful with out a new album... and however much they played it, or how much ABB sold is irrelevant to my point. Point is they certainly didn't have to... but they did.

Think you'll find its you doing the 'spinning', Ian, not 'everyone' else - what with twisting fact-based opinion into 'negativity' and then taking a comment that Mick made ages ago (which you cant recall) into an assumption that there'll be a new record in a few months.

Mick hasnt done that many interviews in the last couple of years until a few weeks ago. I can only assume the interview you're referring to was on the Larry King one he did about 16 months back. In which case, what would you expect him to say on something like that? He's always going to give as diplomatic answer. If he'd said 'no', you can imagine the press shitstorm which would have nullified the whole purpose behind the interview to begin with. Likewise, he's been diplomatic and uncommittal about the Stones in his recent interviews about Superheavy - and even then, look at whats happened with his 'joke' about Keith and the Marquee.

The poor guy would be best advised not to do interviews. Or at least not mention the Stones in them. It appears there's an incredible amount of people- journalists and fans alike - who have at best a tenuous grasp of the concept of 'context'.

_________________________

It's already started (..still though, I love this board dearly). Already many are saying there will be no new album because, oh well...let's see: ...they simply are not into it...or ...there's no time (I guess a full year isn't even enough time for their estimation)...or Mick and Keith don't truly get along well enough...or Keith has writers block....or there is not enough interest to their target audience... or Universal isn't truly interested in a new album because it probably will not sell well... or... they will have flooded the market with too many Stones releases if they release a new studio album (that one, has some substance...still I think they will schedule things accordingly to bypass such a problem) or...Mick will be too busy on his SuperHeavy group and will probably diss The Stones and their recording possibilities... or ... well, never mind...but you get the point Wink

Ian

_____________________________

Mick said a while ago that he was sure The Rolling Stones would do more records. Wasn't a terribly long time ago.. (but it was a while ago).

*All I am saying is I think they will record and release an album for this tour based on my aforementioned reasons- (nothing more).

Ian

_________________________________________________________

I never said the album would be out in a "few months". I don't expect it out until they tour. I'm simply saying it's my belief they will make an album. Didn't say (nor do I necessarily feel) that they will play much of it live.

Just saying I think a new studio album would be on plans to release for the tour ... that's all.

The "joke" from Mick is one of the best thing he has ever done in an interview. And I hope he will continue with things like this. Even Andrew Oldham couldn't have done it any better, look at all the attention it got. The press immediately picked it up, and fall for it.
All these years we had the diplomatic answers from Mick, and this was his subtle way to fool all of us. One word..Respect!!

As exciting as it is to see them meeting, I wonder how long it will be before Keith makes his first predictably twat comment about Super Heavy and makes a play on the name like Super Dodgy or something sad like that. Keith never fails to be a twat at the most sensitive times.

Keith has been interviewed several times lately and hasn't said anything of the kind.  I doubt he does at this point.  When GQ asked him who he thought the Man of the Year should be he said Mick.  If the slam was going to come there was the perfect opportunity and he didn't take it.  Since it appears the Stones are trying to get something going next year, Keith seems to be keeping comments to himself for now.

But wait for the moment Mick decides to take his side gig on the road...Keef will be all over the place. And he would be right. On the bright side: Super Crappy isn't gonna cost me a dime.  Anyway: good marketing from Mick to confirm the bonus disc for Some Girls in an interview. Keeps moaners like me quiet (and happy).

I cant see that happening. I think he's already dismissed the chances of a tour anyway, by cryptically stating that everyone in the band has 'too many other things going on' or something similar.

To be honest, there isnt a market for it. Theyre TOO diverse a bunch to make it feasible. Whilst the CD might sell reasonably, if you were a fan of just one of the 5 acts involved, would you pay a lot of money to see them in concert, knowing that the performer you like is going to have a relatively minor role and that theyre ONLY going to be performing SuperHeavy songs?

I think you hit the nail on the head. His lack of comment on Super Heavy and his remark about Mick as man of the year shows he realises he has gone too far in some ways over the years, and if he wants his baby (The Rolling Stones) to get on the road for one more time he'd better be on friendly, or at least on speaking terms with Mick. No doubt anymore there will be some kind of tour next year.

The only quote I read attributed to him re: SuperHeavy was a few months back, when he said 'I wish him well with it'.

Quite a step up from 'Dogshit in the Doorway'.

His comment at the GQ Awards 'I'd better say Mick!' was by Keith's standards, almost bordering on being publicly contrite!

I think you're all a tad too optimistic because I just think Keith is waiting to make sure something gets locked in contractually and then when the interviews for the tour come around, he'll start being a knob again when he feels that he needs to be the focus of attention. I just think he's hearing it from everyone that what he said in the book was over the top and to make sure something happens, he's pulling back.

I think the barbs and jabs Keith and Mick tossed at each other pre Steel Wheels truly meant something.  I'm sure they still mean something, but I also thing that the lucrative tours they have done from Steel Wheels and beyond have taught them that slagging each other in public leads to more interest which in Keith's mind is great because it may lead to an album/tour, and in Mick's mind is great because it's going to lead to $$$$$ when said album/tour is over.  So it's all win-win for them, despite what they hand out to the press or write in a book.

Georgia Jagger seems to think she'll be spending some time on the road with her old man from next summer...

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/bizarre/3824226/Georgia-is-a-real-J...

SOME girls want their dads to buy them a pony or a new bag – Georgia Jagger is angling for hers to take her on tour.

The model is keeping a clear diary next summer in the hope the Rolling Stones go on the road in 2012 to celebrate the band's 50th anniversary.

The last time she joined her old man Mick Jagger and the band she would have been too young to get stuck in.

When quizzed about the possibility of the Stones touring next year, Georgia said: "Hopefully when they play again I hope to go with them. It's really, really fun.

"It's just all the people I've grown up with – they're like family to me."

Now Georgia's a student, it would be no bother her wangling the time off.

There's still no official word about whether Mick, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, and Charlie Watts will give fans what they want and announce a string of gigs.

But they have been in touch a lot more recently – the last time was in central London two weeks ago.

And as long as Mick and Keith can put their bickering aside, the Smart money is on it happening.

It is their 50th anniversary after all. It would be rude not to.

Mick Jagger - Mick Jagger Having Fun With New Rolling Stones Material

19 September 2011 04:19:45 p

Sir Mick Jagger has revealed he has written ''a lot'' of new material for the Rolling Stones and wrote even more when he met up with drummer Charlie Watts.

Sir Mick Jagger has been writing "a lot" for the Rolling Stones.

The 'Brown Sugar' singer revealed he and the band's drummer Charlie Watts recently had a "really good time" performing some of the latest tracks he's penned.

He said: "I have been writing a lot for the Stones. I mean, when I write, I go, 'Yeah, that could be a good Stones tune' or, 'That's not really going to work for that'.

"I did some sessions with Charlie recently where I just played some songs I'd written, and of course I wrote more when he was there.

"I'd start making them up, so that was good fun, so we had a really good time doing that."

The band are set to celebrate their 50th anniversary next year and Mick admitted they are in discussions about some concert dates or even doing a tour.

He explained to The Times newspaper: "Well, we're talking about it but I don't know if it's going to happen.

"Listen, you could do anything you want if you put your mind to it. I don't know what's going to happen next year. We'll see."

However, he revealed the band do not see a lot of guitarist Keith Richards - who infamously claimed Mick had a "tiny todger" in his autobiography 'Life' last year - because he lives in the US.

He added: "Well, I really don't see much of him. The rest of us are all here [in London] quite a lot, and although he comes here occasionally in the summer, I don't think any of us sees him much. He lives in suburban Connecticut."

Nice to see Mick is still on top of things, but we knew that, while Keith is happy to waste away in "suburban Connecticut"...

If Georgia has read Life, her conclusion would be that Keef totally doesn't know to dig up a story. And as far as surprises go, she probably saw her dad leave the shower in one the past years...so she doesn't have to speculate on wether Keith is right or wrong. Beyond that: what's does a shitty book add up to years of the Glimmers swapping insults?

I hope they use the Some Girls release for an announcement. 2012/13 is probably their last shot at hitting the road again and if it's not gonna happen because the Glimmers don't want to play music together but kick each others faces in, they should just say so and get it over with. The news snippets are becoming a bit of a bore.

Hi Teiz.  Nice to see you again.  Now as far as the shower scenario goes?  I'll pass on that discussion.  I think, however, if you actually count the insults you'll find Keith (in mean drunk mode) way ahead.  His book showed who was the smaller man - and it wasn't Jagger.  I think Jagger wants to do new things because he's intelligent, talented, interested and ABLE.  And I say more power to him.  If Keith can do the same then go for it and show us the walk instead of the talk.

Peace out!

hehe...the shower scenario was good huh? Glad to see you know me well enough to know I wasn't looking for a serious reply on that.

As for Keef: I hear ya. It wasn't smart but it's been that way for years. I disagree on Mick doing something new. As I see it, he actually believes in the myth version of Mick. He and Keith aren't that much different in that way. Except Keith wrties a boring book in which he shows his nasty side - I think the remarks on how he got that dude from the Mama's & Papa's addicted annoyed me more than the crap about Mick and Brian btw - and Mick surrounds himself with minor musical talents to play the Ultimate Superstar part. It annoys me. And you're absolutely right when you say he's entitled to have his fun, but I can imagine Lionel Messi playing football with his friends from school too, except I don't think he expects a full stadium to see his new superteam. (Oh, and Messi's currently the greatest football player in the world). Mick has been part of a supergroup for 50 years, but if he really wanted to play ball with other people in his own league, he should've asked Bob, Bruce, Bowie and Macca to join the club. But he's probably to insecure for that. Mick is playing the vanity overload card in a much more professional way than Keith btw.

So as much as I would love the announcement of a new set of shows, I think the Glimmers will need a decent sit down or two before they'll pretend to get along again.

Very positive sign. He is writing material with the idea of it being a Rolling Stones product. As well, Charlie Watts is involved.

Certainly, Mr. Jagger is not only "open" to the idea of recording with The Rolling Stones, he is entertaining it, and to a point starting to work on it. At least at a certain level being as he is working on potential Stones songs with charlie Watts... and many of them according to this article.

... If all goes well... they will record together. That certainly sounds like the objective.

However, if something doesn't go smoothly, it could halt, or hinder progress... so keep your fingers crossed that things continue to go smoothly. However, who are we kidding ? I think Mick knows what the ultimate goal for next year is... "Rolling Stones".

He knows it will more than likely go down. Otherwise what is the point on working on Rolling Stones songs in a studio with Charlie Watts? .. .. ..

Jagger unsure if the Stones of an anniversary tour
By ALICIA QUARLES - AP Entertainment Writer | AP – 9 hrs ago..

NEW YORK (AP) — Rumors of a Rolling Stones 50th anniversary tour have been floating around for months. But if they're true, Mick Jagger isn't saying.

"I have no idea if there is going to be a tour," the Stones frontman said during an interview on Monday. "We haven't really discussed it. We are talking about if next year is the 50th anniversary, sort of. It depends where you are counting from."

Jagger joked that this may not be the golden anniversary for the band, since drummer Charlie Watts was with another group when the Stones first formed.

"I say to Charlie, 'I looked up the 50th anniversary of the Rolling Stones and you were not playing the drums ... That is so sad that you can't be in the 50th anniversary, Charlie, because you were not there on the date which was July or whenever it was,'" Jagger said, laughing.

The Stones finished their last tour in 2007.

Typical contactmusic. For the complete quotes, see The Times article posted in the SH thread. A whole 'nother context.

Charlie himself mentioned that he'd worked with Mick in France several months ago. That was at the same time Mick recorded his parts for 'Watching The River Flow' on 'Boogie 4 Stu'.

Might they have worked together since then? Possibly...

That said, Ronnie joined in 1975. So for the Mick, Keith, Charlie and Ronnie line-up the 50th anniversary would be in 2025.
So much time left to discuss a 50th anni tour. Smiley

You're flattering them. When it comes to reliability for music news, they're about as useful as a pair of tits on a bull.

They're the 'Weekly World News' of the music world.

Encouraging sign that Mick is letting slip little tidbits like this, though.
