"I just want it to be like it was."

I hope for Lynn that it is.  Very interesting history of how it came to be.  Disturbing but not surprising.  They should all be credited, compensated and thanked.

Loved putting a "face" to a tune..listening to "Handsome Girls" will never be the same! Mick trying to kiss Woody was definitely a kick. Favorite tunes were JMI and HTW. Imagination had a real groove, Keith sounded real Motown on it. Hope everyone else enjoyed it, too. I'll add more later!

Brilliant.
The band is on fire from the first note of Let It Rock to the last riff of JJF.
The stage is right on top of the crowd.
Jagger is a demon, Keith is the pirate, Bill barely smiles, Charlie is very animated.
Ron Wood steals the show.  He is fantastic.
His playing is killer, he has excellent solos, great interplay.
Hard to fathom he was a hired gun-he clearly fits in so much.
Jagger really has a great time with Ronnie, beating him with a towel, just about another
kiss on the lips, as well at one point grabbing Ronnie's crotch...
Keith is the master, chopping & slashing the guitar as if it is giving him electroshock's
The video quality is outstandingly clear, compared to the six year earlier L & G
Good lighting, Jagger is high in the viewing, not as much as I expected.
It is eerie to see some of the songs in such great quality, which we've
all seen forever in grainy video.
Star Star was killer.
The 7 song Some Girls tracks were superb.
Imagination was on point, Miss You without filler is great, much like
the long released studio version.
During Far Away Eyes, something goes wrong with the piano Jagger is playing,
so he scoots over to Mac's keyboard, where he plays the song.
Doug Kershaw on fiddle appears during the back part of this song.
The warhorse segment at the end blazes.
Up front, the interview with Jagger was good, he seems very shy about this.
He really mocks the outfits he wore.
I noticed in the ending credits Honky Tonk Women gets "AKBCO" credit, where the other
Klein songs receive "ABKCO" credit...
All said.....  Outstanding & RONNIE STEALS THE SHOW!

This is the must own video for a Stones junkie, you will not tire of this.

Some Girls soundtrack played for 30 minutes before the show, with
adverts for the dvd & SG remastered release along with trivia about the band popping up on the screen.
Here's a screen shot I took, sorry a bit grainy....

Feral. Raucous. Raw. Exhilarating.

No trickeration, bells or whistles, just the unbridled power of The World's Greatest Rock & Roll Band firing on all cylinders, 18 July Anno Domini 1978.

Best Stones film ever.

They really were twenty feet tall, too.

I sure did. I'd like to think the film was edited for that.  stu-smiling

Would I be right in saying that this is the first time the Stones have officially released a concert (on audio or DVD) which hasnt been edited in any way?

The only other one I can think of would be the recent TAMI show release, but that was only a six song set.

Every other release has been an edited release taken from multiple shows or a shortened version of one concert.

I know that they included every song that was played at the Rock n Roll Circus on the official release, but most/all of the songs they performed that night had several 'takes'.....

I was actually excited, not being there... was talking to other parent at my kids game, and told him how I wanted to see the movie... He asked some Stones questions and got bombarded by me... I'm sure it sounded like a manic preacher talking in tongues to him... I can only imagine how much fun the people who went had!!! Why only one night... totally free tonight... 2nd showing please!!!

the only editing was some audience noise(who cares?) between songs. none of it was chopped up like the dreadful LET'S SPEND THE NIGHT TOGETHER. Much better filmed than I would ever imagined. a little grain on the film in some shots, but other shots looked high def all the way. I am usually very critical of the stones on film, but I was pretty fucking stocked for several hours after seeing it. I was 16 during the tour which I never got to see, and Rolling Stone magazine was brutal on them/ comparing there 75 minute set to Springsteens 3 hour show at the time.
Bottom line- it was a band with no gimics. they rocked, and they did it in 75 minutes with a total primary focus on doing new songs. It was just fun. Some guy commented on the way out " they dont make em like that anymore"   Damn right they dont.

When the Whip Comes Down

By Raoul Hernandez, Wed. Oct. 19

http://goo.gl/NYeX3

“If the band’s a bit off tonight, it’s because we spent all our energy last night... fucking.” Mick Jagger leading the Rolling Stones through a July 18 performance in Fort Worth on 1978’s Some Girls tour, a DVD tie-in to the LP’s new deluxe reissue and screening one-night-only in Austin yesterday, is a bit off alright. Off the charts.

Last year’s roll out of Ladies & Gentlemen The Rolling Stones, a 1973 concert film capturing the Fort Worth stop of the previous year’s Exile On Main Street tour, followed the now-standard limited theatrical run for contemporary rock & roll docs. Some Girls Live in Texas, due as a stand-alone release Nov. 21, has at least one skinny pant leg up on its predecessor: It’s never been seen or released. When the music business talks about a band’s “vaults,” this is what everyone’s holding their breath for.

In fact, the 7:30pm screening last night in South Austin at the Metropolitan 14 brought out a full-house. Nearly two hours later, after a new introductory interview with Sir Mick (a device employed with the restored Ladies & Gentlemen) and the Stones then steamrolling a 16-song set, KUT jock and forever Chronicle Music team player Jay Trachtenberg put it best. “I’m exhausted and it was only a film!”

Bootlegs from the 24-date '78 tour – imagine, a month of U.S. shows for a No. 1 album – reveal the same number of songs in 80 minutes, the hit list more or less set in stone other than the subbing in and out of covers. (Locate the Capital Theatre/Passaic, New Jersey show. It’ll melt your stereo.) Fortunately, the heart of the performances starred eight of 10 Some Girls tracks. Only the title cut and Keith Richards’ post-heroin-bust boast, “Before They Make Me Run,” didn’t make the cut. The band actually pulled out the former tune during its 2002/03 Live Licks tour, while the latter later became a favorite of the band’s.

Framed by Chuck Berry covers, opener “Let It Rock” and main set closer “Sweet Little Sixteen,” the show’s ferociously punkish punch owes much of its raw edge to the band’s seminal influence. At every turn, Richards tears off lead runs beginning and ending at Berry, whose 85th birthday was yesterday, appropriately enough. Otherwise, Ronnie Wood fires most of the lead guitar work, starting with his ripping slide work on “Let It Rock” successor “All Down The Line.” He also becomes Mick’s onstage whipping boy, enduring all sorts of show hazing and harassment from the frontman. Unperturbed, Woody duets with Jagger on “Star Star,” wafts pedal steel on country bumpkin “Far Away Eyes,” and fights off the singer during Richards’ “Happy.”

Glimpsed only briefly but carrying “Miss You” with demonic keyboard funk is local British Invasion icon Ian McLagan, while Charlie Watts, who’s always driven the Stones like god’s own Transportation Secretary, gets exactly two close-ups during the two-song encore, “Brown Sugar” and “Jumping Jack Flash.” No matter. This is Jagger’s show all down the line. As the posters for Ladies & Gentlemen proclaimed, “Jagges sings! Jagger dances! Jagger explodes! Jagger delivers the 15 hits that shook the world of music.” Six years after the Exile trek, the only thing that’s changed are the clothes and an additional song.

Some Girls remains the Rolling Stones last great studio album, its 1981 commercial topper Tattoo You scraped together from the vault with new additions. “When The Whip Comes Down” matches Let It Bleed’s vicious “Midnight Rambler” in beatdown even as “Beast Of Burden,” delivered by Jagger here like he’s making up his plea on the spot, soothes the band’s savage beasts. Temptations cover “Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me),” whose expletive punchline burst the theater into laughter, grooves perfectly out of “Miss You,” whereas “Shattered” and “Respectable” froth back-to-back. “Far Away Eyes” into Robert Johnson’s “Love In Vain” mines American roots like the pioneers.

Some Girls Live In Texas, just how we like ‘em.

Highlights from “The Rolling Stones: Some Girls Live in Texas”

by Hector Saldana
10/19/2011

The Rolling Stones aren’t known for soft-focus moments.

But there’s a surprisingly touching one in the concert film “The Rolling Stones: Some Girls Live in Texas” — filmed at Will Rogers Centre in Fort Worth on July 18, 1978 — which comes comes at the very end.

The film screened nationally this week on a one-night-only basis.

It’s a lingering shot of a smiling Ian Stewart, the ‘sixth Stone’ founding member who played piano and recorded with them, peeking over the massive Ampeg amps to stare at the cheering crowd after a wild rendition of “Jumpin’ Jack Flash.”

Keith Richards always considered the Stones to be Stewart’s band.  And obviously, on this night, Stewart approved. (For his part, Keith Richards had his Fender Telecaster equipped with two capos on its neck to handle the ferocious strumming).

“We were so engrossed in the music that nothing else mattered,” recalled pianist Ian McLagan, who also played on the ’78 “Some Girls” tour.

But that’s as sentimental as it gets.  The 17-song set blisters and rolls, though there are moments of hilarity, too.  At one point, Mick Jagger dances over to guitarist Ron Wood only to grab the cigarette dangling out of his mouth and then stomp it into the floor.

Jagger, a few days shy of his 35th birthday, is untouchable.  The newly restored concert film shows why he’s rock’s greatest frontman.

His abandon is evident throughout, but especially on the “Some Girls” material. There’s an edge to the performance and Jagger’s vocals are delivered flat-out.

He’s not perfect. Jagger stumbles briefly on a few if the lines of Chuck Berry’s “Let It Rock,” which opened the show.  And it looks like he might be reading some lyrics located near Charlie Watts’ drum kit right before attacking “Shattered.”

There’s a flashback moment, too: On “Sweet Little Sixteen,” Jagger clutches the microphone stand with the same relish and James Brown swagger that he showed on the 1964 T.A.M.I concert.

What’s it like playing with the Rolling Stones?  “I can’t believe the energy that Mick Jagger has. Never mind the fac that he’s singing live, it’s not like Madonna or something. It’s not bullshit,” said McLagan. “This guy is singing incredibly, but he’s singing live while he’s prancing about. Remember, he’s already ran five miles. That’s what he does in the morning!

“It’s unbelivable. There’s nobody like him.”

Concert film captures the Stones’ 1978 performance in Fort Worth

By Preston Jones
10/19/2011

http://goo.gl/7X1Wf
June 17, 1978 - Philadelphia PA (AP)

“Quite intense” is how Mick Jagger remembers the summer of 1978.

His band, the Rolling Stones, had just released 'Some Girls;, a follow-up to 1976′s 'Black And Blue', and was touring America for the first time in three years. It was nearing the end of the 'Exile On Main Street' era, a tumultuous period of drug problems, tax dilemmas and intra-band squabbles.

The ’78 schedule wasn’t too grueling — 25 dates in two months, including a July 18 stop at Fort Worth’s Will Rogers Memorial Auditorium — but, of course, the offstage antics were enough to bring even the hardiest rock stars nearly to their knees.

It’s the wearied yet exhilarated faces that stick with you the most in the new concert film 'Some Girls Live in Texas', which screened nationally Tuesday.

Captured by a Dallas film crew but officially unreleased for the better part of three decades, this document of a band near its prime is being released Nov. 21 on Blu-ray and DVD in conjunction with a reissue of 'Some Girls'.

The remastered film, decked out with an immaculate image and a roaring soundtrack, was preceded by a 15-minute interview with Jagger, which was filmed in August with journalist Paul Sexton.

Sexton prefaced his chat with a few clips from the ’78 Fort Worth gig. Cutting from the youthful, lascivious Jagger to the extremely well-worn, modern-day version was downright shocking.

“It’s not sloppy,” Jagger said of the Fort Worth show. “Everyone’s having fun, but you can see they’re concentrating.”

And indeed, there’s an almost workmanlike feel to the set list, which pulled heavily from the then-fresh 'Some Girls'. The core group (Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Ronnie Wood and Bill Wyman) was augmented by pros like Ian McLagan. In a neat twist, several of the smaller shows, including Fort Worth, were performed under a pseudonym, the London Greenshoe Cowboys.

But that gimmick was the only one in sight (a far cry from the Stones’ later years). Powered by the phenomenal 'Some Girls' (which produced classics like 'Beast Of Burden'), the Stones appear burned-out but rock-solid throughout the performance, which swings from punk-inspired fury ('Shattered') to beautifully battered country ('Far Away Eyes').

A visceral document of an era lost to memory, Jagger fairly understated the electricity generated by the Stones: “This particular era was, musically, very interesting.”
