Keith plays chess? did anyone else know this?

I "suspected" he knew a little bit about the game because I have heard him mention a few of the pieces in interviews... such as saying things like oh..."we were just pawns" ...or... "the Queen was the strongest piece but it is the king that decided the game"... etc. etc. Not verbatim, but I have heard him say things along these lines. Since I am a chess fan myself, I always took note of this and wondered.
Using common parlance is hardly a criteria for suggesting he plays the game.
He does seem to have a problem with one of his friends becoming a Knight, it has to be said....plus most of his earliest musical influences were on Chess .....

Sure I know. I realize it is fairly common for folks to use Chess analogies, even though they may not play or have not really any idea about the game and or it's pieces. It is the universal game in which everyone knows of and are familiar with it's concept so many mention it or compare things to it... even though they may of never played a game in their life.
Still, I did wonder because once (on VH1 years ago) he seemed to have a knowing glitch in his eye as in he played it before, or grasped the comparison directly, rather than simply rolling an analogy off the tongue. I cannot remember what he said but I remember thinking it is a possibility he knew how to play.
It was simply a hunch of mine that he did know how to play but I always sort of wondered and wanted to know for sure if he did or didn't. I don't know why, but I could imagine him (yep...Keith Richards hehe) having a casual game..
*Your mentions of Knighting and Chess Records ring all too true for Mr. Richards.. hah.
