Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings – Back in the UK at the Royal Hall

Start:November 5, 2011 8:00 pm
Venue:The Royal HallPhone:01423502116
Address: Harrogate, North Yorkshire, United Kingdom

Rock and roll icon, author, restaurateur and photographer – legendary former Rolling Stones bassist BILL WYMAN has seen it all and continues to live life to the full. For over thirty years he was part of the best rock n roll band in the world.

His latest musical rebirth, as the driving force behind the fabulous RHYTHM KINGS, sees him return to his musical roots. This set of virtuoso musicians superbly bring back to life the kind of classic rhythm and blues that first inspired Wyman to pick up the guitar as a teenager. A show imbued with absolute quality.

Supreme Mary Wilson joins Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings on 2011

BACK IN THE UK Tour

MARY WILSON, legendary star of The Original Supremes, will join BILL WYMAN’S RHYTHM KINGS, as a Special Guest on their UK tour this autumn. The tour begins in October, ends in December and calls at 36 theatres across the country. Tickets are on sale now.

Rising to fame during the Sixties, as a founding member of Motown Records ‘THE SUPREMES’, alongside Diana Ross and Florence Ballard, MARY WILSON was the only constant member of the group from their incarnation as The New Supremes in 1970, until they disbanded in 1977. Wilson lays claim to the number-one hits ‘Baby Love’, ‘Stop, in the name of Love’, ‘Back in My Arms Again’ and ‘You Can’t Hurry Love’ – to name but a few.

“I have admired Mary Wilson’s talents since we first met in November 1964 during the TAMI Show. We have been friends since that time, and remain so.It’s wonderful to have Mary join us onstage. It will be a fun tour – full of great music!” Bill Wyman

Mary Wilson previously performed with BILL WYMAN’S RHYTHM KINGS, at a very special concert; a Royal charity gala in aid of the 60th Anniversary of the Red Cross, hosted by HRH Prince Albert of Monaco. Bill chose as the show’s theme, ‘A celebration of the music of the 60’s’, so Mary was a fitting choice. She now joins BILL WYMAN for this tour, as he returns to his musical roots. THE RHYTHM KINGS superbly bring back to life the kind of classic rhythm & blues that first inspired Wyman to pick up the guitar as a teenager.

“Delivery is immaculate – a dream team of musicians” – Q Magazine

‘Every song is carefully picked, finely honed and exquisitely crafted’ – Classic Rock

“High precision jazz-blues-pop, superbly performed by top R&B veterans.” – Mojo

For the BACK IN THE UK TOUR Mary will be joining the Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings band, which will include Bill Wyman, Georgie Fame, Albert Lee, Beverley Skeete, Geraint Watkins, Graham Broad, Terry Taylor, Frank Mead and Nick Payn

I gotta admit I never used to be the biggest Bill Wyman fan. When he left the Stones, it wasn't the biggest deal to me. When I did read Stone Alone, it didn't change my point of view. For me it was too much bashing on Mick and Keith, too much money and pussy talk(nothing wrong with that though, but still).
But when I look back at it, you just gotta have some deep respect for this guy. 75 years old or something, and still kicking. Playing the music he loves. He had the guts to leave " the comfort Stones bubble". And as much as I wish he didn't do that (by now) , you even have to respect him for that. I know I was very wrong about Bill , you only have to listen to Star Fucker on Love you Life, to understand what an amazing bass player he is. I always used to be the biggest Keith fan, but even I can't help thinking now... all those quotes from the past "even when they have to push me in a weelchair, I'm gonna hit the road". I still don't wanna judge too hard on Keith, maybe he has too much medical problems to hit that road. But I can't help thinking Keef where are you now?
When I finished "Life" I thought it was a great and honest book, but when I think back of it. There is no word about his athritis, no word about Patti's illness, wich obviously hit hard on him. Ah well, I don't wanna think any further, I just wish Keith had the same spirit as Bill seems to have now. Otherwise maybe in the end it was just "Talk is cheap". I hope I'm wrong (again!).

Nice post indeed. I've always liked Bill. He's a gentleman and I guess he can tell us much more stories about the Glimmertwins that can put them in a bad daylight but he refuses to do so. Saw him 2 years ago in Eindhoven (Holland) and it was great. Just a bunch of guys who love to play music from their roots for a live audience. That's what they were born for. As far as Keith concernes, I'm beginning to doubt that.
