Hours before members of the New Orleans Saints' coaching staff and front office were scheduled to have their appeals heard by the NFL regarding the team's bounty scandal, an incriminating audio recording surfaced of former Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams seemingly exhorting his players to injure opponents during a fiery pre-game speech.

Yahoo's Michael Silver spoke with documentary filmmaker Sean Pamphilon, who recorded the speech at the team’s hotel the night before the NFC Championship game against the San Francisco 49ers. In Pamphilon's recording, Williams can be heard instructing his players to injure several of the 49ers players, notably making explicit references to "taking out that outside ACL" of 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree.

Pamphilon informs Silver that Williams put a bounty on 49ers quarterback Alex Smith when he made the cash sign with his fingers and said, "We hit fuckin Smith right there, I got the first one. I got the first one. Go get it. Go lay that mother fucker out."

An abbreviated version of the audio was uploaded to YouTube by Pamphilon with a note detailing the date of the recording. He also shared a link for his website where the entire speech could be found.

LISTEN: WARNING THIS RECORDING CONTAINS NSFW LANGUAGE:

Three weeks after the Saints' bounty program was revealed to the public in the beginning of March, the NFL came down hard on the organization, suspending head coach Sean Payton for a year and Williams indefinitely. Williams, who signed with the St. Louis Rams in the offseason to be their defensive coordinator, took full responsibility and decided not to appeal.

However, Payton, GM Mickey Loomis, assistant coach Joe Vitt and the Saints organization announced last week that they would appeal the punishments. Those appeals will be presented to Commissioner Roger Goodell on Thursday, but Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk writes that the release of Williams' speech makes it unlikely that the sanctions get reduced.

“We are not commenting on specific pieces of evidence that we have,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello informed ProFootballTalk via email when asked if the league was previously aware of the audio recording, “other than what we have released in our statements.”

ESPN's Adam Schefter pointed out on Twitter that the NFL contacted the Saints before the playoffs this year to tell them, again, to stop the bounties.

The Saints are fucking up- see below

New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis had the ability to eavesdrop on opposing coaching staffs, according to a report on Monday.

The ESPN program "Outside the Lines" was told that the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Eastern District of Louisiana was informed on Friday that Loomis had an electronic device in his Superdome suite that had been re-wired to give him the capability to eavesdrop on visiting coaching staffs for three seasons.

Loomis responded by email to Fox Sports' Jay Glazer, which Glazer posted on his Twitter account:

"This report on ESPN is absolutely false. I have a monitor in front of me in my booth that provides the league issued stats for the game. I have a small tv [sic] with the network broadcast and I have an earpiece to listen to the WWL- AM radio (flagship broadcaster) game broadcast.

"To think I am sitting in there listening and actually and or doing something with the offensive and defensive play calls of the opposing teams makes this story and the unnamed sources that provided the false information that much more less credible...it just didn't happen."

According to the ESPN report, sources that are familiar with game-day operations for the Saints said that Loomis had the ability to secretly listen for most of the 2002 season and all of the '03 and '04 seasons.

Loomis, who became the general manager of the team in 2002, was issued an eight-game suspension for his role in the bounty program that was brought to light in early March.

U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana, Jim Letten, confirmed that he was told of the alleged eavesdropping on Friday and sources told ESPN that he has briefed the FBI about it. If the allegations are proven true, they could be both a violation of NFL rules and a federal crime, as the federal Electronic Communications Privacy Act of 1986 prohibits any person from intercepting communications from another person using an electronic or mechanical device.

The device was reportedly installed in the general manager's suite in 2000, when Randy Mueller served as the Saints' general manager. However, the sources said that Mueller only had the ability to monitor game-day communication of the Saints' coaching staff.

Proves my long held point that the Pats took one for all NFL coaches when Fredo Mangenius ratted them out.

ESPN: Brees, Saints Agree to Record Contract

...

Posted Friday, July 13th, 2012

Our long vigil for a Drew Brees contract appears to be over. ESPN's Chris Mortensen is reporting Brees and the Saints inked a five-year contract this morning to keep the record-breaking Quarterback as the focal point of the Who Dat Nation. According to Mortensen, Brees' guaranteed take in the deal is an NFL record $60 million, and the total pricetag on the contract is $100 million.

NFL should vacate Saints’ 2010 Super Bowl title
opinion | Derrick Z. jackson
THIS STORY APPEARED IN
Boston Articles

While Roger Goodell is at it, he should vacate the New Orleans Saints’ 2010 Super Bowl title, earned while the Saints had a bounty system for deliberately injuring opposing players. It was bad enough the system existed for the last three seasons. But players and coaches also engaged in a cover-up. Goodell, the commissioner of the National Football League, said without hesitation in an interview Wednesday on the NFL Network, “We were misled, there denials throughout that period. Clearly we were lied to. We investigated this back in 2010. We were told it was not happening and it continued for another two years.”

So this story was written in Boston> Did the writer mention the Pats giving up a title due to illegal taping activities??
