NFL 2011-12

Looking more and more like we will be having a season. So time to fire up a football thread.
Daniel Kaplan's forecast may be based on the giddiest players and owners, or it might not. All I know is that after hearing that the beginning of the end of this stupid lockout could be coming within two weeks makes me want to moonwalk on water.

There's been a substantial number of reports backing up the optimistic rumblings coming out of meetings between players and owners in recent weeks, and this is by far the rosiest. If a framework could be agreed upon within two weeks, and a couple more weeks brought us a final agreement, the NFL could salvage a training camp, pre-season and full season. I don't have to tell any of you how awesome that would be at this point.

It would mean those unofficial player workouts would be replaced by mandatory, full-team workouts. It would mean a Falcons team that went 13-3 last season could finally get back to work in a meaningful fashion, bring aboard free agents and try to deliver on the considerable promise that bloomed in 2010. We could all be happy in that little NFL world, in other words.

Let's hope it happens. Where do you put the odds?

Nothing but flat headed nickles for LeBron James.

Big win for Mavs.  Would not have predicted it.  Would not have thought Bron Bron would flop that badly.  Sure was nice to see!

Is James having an ESPN special event announcing how bad he "choked" versus Mavs?

So far, unless you count good will and perhaps a bit of credibility, the owners have lost absolutely nothing in the lockout. Most have actually seen a net increase in income to this point due to staff salary cuts, workout bonuses not paid, etc. But that will soon change, because July 1 is the renewal date for many, many millions of dollars worth of sponsor contracts.

Simply put, if the league isn't operating on that date, the Budweiser money stops flowing. The Pepsi money stops flowing. Gatorade and Verizon and credit card companies and dozens of other revenue sources dry up. This is why there appears to be a flurry of positive activity right now, and why July 1 is as good a date as any to expect to see this thing resolved.

It amazes me that crap teams like Carolina are only 100-1.....who in their right mind would take that bet?.....Hell I wouldn't waste good money at 500-1..........Pack coming back with a lot of players that were hurt should be closer to 4-1 imho.....Plus Rodgers is over the hump with a win.....Thats the bet I'd take now......specially at 7-1

I'm not here to talk about the lockout.
We will be ready for whatever type of
schedule is given to us.  We will make the
most of this.  We will train our players with the
goal of fielding a team which will compete in the
regular season.  There will be some players
who will make it, and some which will not.
We will be ready when that time comes.

Tampa Bay at 35 to 1 looks like good bang for the buck. Seahawks 3rd lowest odds? After winning a playoff game? Hard to pick against GB though, with tons of players on IR coming back!

Saints players will welcome lottery-winning fans to practice with them
By Sean Leahy, USA TODAY

Ever wonder what it would be like to participate in an actual workout with NFL players? Now, you've got a chance.

Players for the New Orleans Saints are raffling off a chance for four fans to participate in a player-organized workout next week.

...
Saints QB Drew Brees and LB Jonathan Vilma are spearheading the movement, which will benefit charities in Louisiana.

Tickets are $2 each, but there is a minimum purchase of $10. The deadline to but tickets in 1 p.m. ET on May 20, and the workout will take place on May 25.

"Giving back to the people of New Orleans is something every single Saints player feels passionate about," said Brees.

Added Vilma, "The fans are the greatest part of this game, and we know they are able to make a difference in our community. This contest is as exciting for us as it is for them."

The winners will also get a travel allowance to get to New Orleans for the workout, if necessary, and will be lodged in the Ritz-Carlton New Orleans the night prior to the practice.

I wouldn't go that far. Brees is one of the ringleaders among the players during the labor dispute. Which is so noble of him.One of the highest paid players in the league is leading the charge to get more money. He better be fan fucking friendly. They're paying his fucking salary. Nanker

Packers and Pats are sweet bets at those odds.  Another nice long shot is Titans at 40-1.

All moot, as the Steelers will avenge loss against Packers.

If so then 10-1 is a nice price. Shocked

Lockout will end officially July 7th so camps can open and no "pre-season games" will be missed. I read where those games generate 700 million so owners and players will not want to see that pie go away......be interesting to see how free agency will play out with only days until camps open.

Looks like the framework for a deal has the players getting %48 of all revenues. Without the owners taking a billion off the top. Sounds like a good deal to me. Sign that puppy and let's get it on! Fuck you Gazza, Will ya?

with unrestricted free agency after 4 years there will tons of good players out there and a short window to sign them...Hopefully franchise tags stay...dont want to lose Lamarr Woodley!

Let's do it. I'm a very busy man!

BUFORD – The Falcons are set to wrap up “Camp Exile” with their final seven-on-seven practice on Wednesday.

A core group of 20 to 35 players have been working out twice-a-week since May 10 about 10 miles from the team’s facilities.

Last year, the organized team activities concluded on June 18, so the players-only workouts have gone a few days over.

Quarterback Matt Ryan, linebacker Curtis Lofton and player representative Coy Wire have been instrumental in getting the players together.

Ryan spoke with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution about what he thinks the team achieved this offseason after Tuesday’s workout. (We’ll get Lofton’s take after tomorrow’s practice.)

Camp Exile, bitches!
