And, seing as I haven't posted in such a long while, here's one to bore you all shitless:
Went to a conference a few weeks ago and heard a paper given by David Williams PhD, someone who used to "build" new pharmaceutical drugs for Astra Zeneca, mainly in the field of human heart disease. He got interested in the power of the mind over the body, because when they were blind-trialling drugs before licensing them for sale, they'd take 100 people and give them the heart drug and 68% of those would indeed "get better", but the other 100 people who'd only swallowed a "placebo" (a capsule looking the same as the real drug but containing only chalk mixed with sugar), well of that group perhaps about 30% got better too, so that would raise a few eyebrows amongst the scientists... Not to bore you entirely shitless with all this, I just want to tell you about one experiment where they took 100 married couples which they sat in a room in front of a camera, 50 of them very lovey-dovey and bonded, holding hands and very kind with one another, a lot of eye- contact and "Yes, love, I know where you're coming from, but you also have to bear in mind..."-you all get the idea. The other fifty couples were a bit more antagonistic. They asked each couple to discuss a controversial subject, something they simply would not agree on, for 30 minutes. The first 10 minutes were discarded, because everyone was too aware of the camera being in the room and the middle 10 were also chucked, only the last 10 minutes were used. Half of them were still being very kind, the other half was loudly arguing, and if the words had been bullets, there would have been a few casualties. THEN they substracted the effects of life style, smoking or non-smoking, obesity, exercise etc and tested the furring up of all these people's arteries by special MRI-scans. The conclusion of this trial was that in the couples were there was a lot of love, there was almost no furring up or artherosclerosis and in the other group was a lot. The explanation for this is that whenever we humans are caressed, kiss, or smiled at, or we ourselves caress someone, or kiss someone, or eveb stroke our cat, weproduce a jormone called Oxytocin in our body, which goes into our blood. The molecule of this hormone (Oxytocin, same drug that makes breast-feeding women let milk down or induces birth in pregnant women) is shaped EXACTLY like a little "hole" in the cells lining our blood vessels and heart inside, which are called endothelial cells. Anyway, everytime you produce Oxytocin the molecules go into this hole and then the cell rpoduces Nitric Acid, which is in all the drugs we get given to prevent us from furring up, it's also the same stuff in Nitroglycerine, which they give men as a tablet under the tongue to avoid heart attack......

The conclusion of all this, dear Nanky, is that somehow you have to try and get more kindness and love into your life, which must be so hard when you practice law. Yoga, like pdog suggested it, would be such a great thing to do. I've been doing it almost for a year now, twice weekly, and those are the three hours a week that my mind-chatter ceases and that I manage to totally relax and feel peaceful, no matter how hectic my life is or isn't at the time. I also managed to get over my own crippling insomnia through yoga,I suffered with this sleep-deprivation for about three months last year, which was almost worse than when my daughter was a newborn. I can only recommend yoga in the highest terms. But back to the music already! John Lennon was right all along: ALL WE NEED IS LOVE. And the big question we should all regularly ask ourselves is: Am I constantly rushing around like a total idiot, dealing with the emergencies in my life but neglecting the important aspects?
Anyway, have a good recovery. Sorry if this was a bit long...
