A tale of two Jaggers: Mick fills arenas but his brother Chris can’t sell out a village hall

His brother has been playing in front of huge crowds all over the world for almost 50 years. But Chris Jagger is sometimes hard-pressed to sell out the village hall.

And while Sir Mick and the Rolling Stones can rake in hundreds of thousands of pounds from a single concert, Chris  and his band are usually obliged to share a few hundred.

On Saturday the 60-year-old musician played to a smattering of locals at Pitney Village Hall in Somerset, joined on stage by his group, the Hedge Fund Band, whose brand of catchy country rock prompted an enthusiastic response from the audience.

......
Low-key: Chris, left, at the weekend and Mick in action performing live on stage

Around 70 people had turned up, each paying a £7 entry fee; those lucky enough to be in the front row of a Rolling Stones concert at Wembley may have paid thousands of pounds.

Chris claims his career has been hampered because he is always compared with his incredibly successful sibling. Seven years younger than the Stones frontman, he has often bemoaned the difficulty of being related to one of rock’s biggest icons.
He has released a handful of albums with little success, while Sir Mick and the Stones have managed eight number one singles and ten chart-topping albums.

...
Wembley: Thousands go wild for Mick Jagger and the stadium-filling Rolling Stones

Chris has said of their relationship: ‘Having someone like Mick as a brother gives you a standard to live up to.
‘But you also know what’s going to happen if you put a record out – they are going to compare it to what Mick has done.
‘I’ll always be younger than him’

‘You have to acknowledge what someone has done, but at the same time you are different in what you have done in life.
‘When I was 16 to 18 years old, it was obviously quite a big thing but once I reached 40, I didn’t care any more. I have always had more freedom and I could do whatever I liked, whereas as  soon as Mick goes out to a crowd, they want him to sing Jumpin’ Jack Flash.
‘The one thing in my favour is that I will always be younger than him.’
His brother’s fortune, estimated at £190million, includes a castle in the Loire Valley, a retreat on Mustique, an apartment in New York, and houses in Richmond, South-West London and in Chelsea.

...
Pitney: Around 70 politely watch Chris Jagger and the Hedge Fund Band

Chris – who lives in a renovated farmhouse in Somerset – has supplemented his income by taking jobs as a decorator and cab driver.
‘I had people in the taxi who would say, “Why can’t your brother support you?”, but it’s not his job to support me.
‘Somehow people expect you to be very rich just because you are related to him.’
He once likened himself to a junior member of the royal family, saying: ‘The supporting role has to be the supporting role; it cannot usurp.’

The pair performed a gospel song, Will The Circle Be Unbroken?, together at their mother Eva’s funeral in 2000.
And four years ago Sir Mick arrived in a chauffeur-driven limo to join Chris again, performing with another band, Atcha!, in front of 40 people at a riverside pub in South-West London.

Well grounded guy, Mick could have quietly given him some money, and could have let him refuse...

Chris has a closer, more personal connection with his fans!  I wouldn't be surprised if they buy him drinks after the gig!

At least that is what the local bands do here, during the intermission, they sit around and drink with the fans.

I went to see Chris Jagger with Ben Waters back in 2005 at The Gov. ( A pub - live venue in Adelaide)
I went with my cousin and we got absolutely blind drunk.
We had a great time even tho there was only about 50 people there.
Chris came up to us after the show and signed a poster and his cd for us, I proceeded to say " thanks Mick"...Chris proceeded to walk away Lips Sealed
