I've seen the Furs a couple of times, both great shows, but I've never bought any of their records, so I'm still not very familiar with them.

They are coming to my town in June, where they will play their 1981 record Talk Talk Talk in it's entirety.

What do ya'll think of this record, and would you go to the show if you could ?

AMAZING!!!

The Furs played at my bachelor party...

Talk Talk Talk is what made me a Furs fan...I only knew 2 or 3 songs of theirs and when TTT came out,
it blew me away...Dumb Waiter is one of the coolest songs ever written.

StonesDoug is a huge Furs fan as well.

Any tour dates to post??

before i moved here, i would've thought the same thing, San Antonio, aTx, Dallas and houston all have huge music markets for live shows... each have their own flavor too. Don't know as juch about El Paso, but I'm sure West Texas has it's own thing too...
They proabably will add shows.... There's got to be a demand for shows in NYC, Boston, Philly ect... not otm ention some midwest cities...

Got my wish...looks like the Furs are playing right here in town...about a five min bike ride and right across the street where I work...most of the bands playing at The Cat's Cradle come in for dinner at my restaurant...so who knows?!?

The Butler Brothers & Company put up a very solid performance in New Orleans last night.
The band was tight and Richard wasted no energy belting out the lyrics and interacting with the audience on hand.
Several times, Richard leaned over the edge of the stage to grab hands and I thought for sure that a particular group of ladies were going to pull him into the audience.

The show started on time and yours truly was FOS during the first set, which was Talk Talk Talk performed in it's entirety.
There was plenty of elbow room at first even up front, as I think a lot of poor bastards assumed there would be an opening band, but as the night wore on the venue filled up.

Only one snafu I noticed when Rich Good's guitar lost a couple of strings during It Goes On.
An alert guitar tech immediately came to the rescue and fast-tuned a replacement while the band continued, giving us an extended version of the song without missing a beat.

I took advantage of the short intermission between sets to grab a last drink and stake out a new vantage point for watching the rest of the show.
Once again, the band came back and delivered a powerful set of selected songs from the rest of their catalogue.

Eighteen excellent tunes in two hours made for a great night out, and if anyone is on the fence about wanting to see The Furs, I would say get out there and go.

If you get to meet them...tell Richard GOOD ( not Butler) that Paul and Chip from Chapel Hill would love to kidnap him again and have a few beers!!

Richard Butler knows StonesDoug...drop his name too if you want...

That's a Furs song as well as a Stones title. I guess you probably know that. Never mind.

I'm in love with Catholics
I'm in love with your blue cars
I'm in love with the words that scream
We are so stupid, we all dream

I'm in love with Frank Sinatra
Fly me to the moon
I'm in love with fools like you
I'm in love with doing the twist

I'm in love with the bodies that scream
They fall so far, they fall so far
I'm in love with The Supremes
Oh, baby love

I'm in love with Sophia Loren
I'm in love with Bridget Bardot
I'm in love with the whole dumb scene
I'm so in love, you know what I mean

I'm in love with Anthea and Donna
All that shit that goes, uptown top ranking

I'm in love with the factory
I'm in love with the BBC
I'm in love with your TV
They're so in love with you and me

I'm in love with a nuclear bomb it falls
I'm in love with shopping city dreams
I'm in love with real men
They go through the air for oxygen

Love is just a car like you
That turns so blue and turns so blue
No blue cars will run my world
No playboys will black my word

I would walk a million smiles
For one of your miles Bob
Hey, stop, stop, stop, stop, stop, stop

We love you, we love you, we love you
We love you, we love you, we love you
We love you, we love you

I saw the Furs from the front row of the Forum
in Harrisburg in 1982 when Forever Now was a
new album. They were augmented by a cute cello
player that tour and I was right in front of her, and
kissed her hand at the end of the show.

http://themusicsover.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/annsheldon2.jpgw=266
(oh no...just googled her and found out that her
name was Ann Sheldon, and that on December 31,
1984, she  was killed in a car accident while traveling
on an icy road in the Catskill Mountains. Damn.)

...

I thought the Furs were the best of that bunch of New Wave
bands of that era, which would also include The Teardrop
Explodes and U2. I loved Butler's delivery (sort of Johnny
Rotten meets Bing Crosby at David Bowie's house) and his
dada-inspired lyrics. He used to put the word "stupid" in just
about every song. I'm glad they're still around.
