I think it was like 3.75 a gallon. In a few minutes who knows. A buddy of mine thats in the oil business says there is so much oil in the market the companies are running out of places to put it. There is no shortage. We are being hoodwinked.

“Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe.” - Steven Chu 2008. Gasoline costs over $9.00 a gallon in the UK! Who is Steven Chu? Obummer's Energy Secretary obviously! Good ol' Rahm said it best, "never let a crisis go to waste."

Anyone that thinks that these gas prices are the result of the crap in the Middle East, I've got an oil rig to sell you in the Gulf Of Mexico! Too bad the flat earth oil moratorium is still in place! Obummer could lower these prices with one speech. Think he'll offer to allow drilling, and lift the moratorium? Hell no! That's not part of his grand design.

Oil prices in 2007 went to $97.00 a barrel in August of that year. Bush gave a speech and outlined plans for lifting the oil drilling moratorium and the price of barrel fell to $37 the next day! Fear not libs. Obummer has no such plans this time around.

But hey, at least we can pretend that we're actually doing something good for the enviroment! ROTFLMMFAO!!!

It's $3.38 a gallon in Merriam Kansas where I am.

And yes, compared to the rest of the world, Americans have cheap gasoline.
One the we do not have is Mass Transit, except on the East Coast.  If we want to go anywhere we have to drive.
We went for 16 months without a car and let me tell you that was no fun.  Two miles to the grocers on foot every two days no matter the weather is a drag.
And forget going anywhere else.  Cabs around here are too expensive except in case of an emergency.

When my son was stationed in Germany he couldn't believe their transit system.  When he was off duty he could go anywhere and didn't need a car.  Loved it.

I wish we had a train or bus system in our area that worked and got a person places you need to go at various hours of the day.  I hate putting money into a car.
All that money we spend on gas, up keep, insurance, etc. on something that loses value every minute we drive it.   Tongue

gas prices were high for a long, long time and didn't come down fast at the pumps... of course, somehow, you feel the need to defend Bush, even from 2007, and bring up politics, when no one else is... you miss the big point... listen to the people who post from outside the USA... we use the most and pay the least, and we don't conserve it... maybe they know something you don't. Alot of these countries are exploring and implenting alternatives... not just hot air, talk!!!

that's because they do really great things with the tax revenues, like reinvest in the country, medical, education, inferstructure, helping those in need.... here, we are giving tax breaks to the rich, cutting programs for the poor, and the people who think like riffy, have been claiming this will grow our economy... oh, and he blames every single problem on liberals, and claims his beleifs are the only facts... does Rocks Off have a snooze button, wake me when this guy goes away again.

Pdog, I'm sorry, but you are just painfully naive on this subject if you honestly believe what you are saying.

Let's just take a look at the FACTS.

Does Europe have the natural resources that the US has with regards to oil deposits? No, not even close. Fact.

The US has an estimated supply of shale oil alone to last well over two thousand years. Yes. Fact.

Did Obummer's Energy Secretary Steven Chu claim that it would be beneficial to raise gas prices to European price levels in order to get Americans to drive less? Yes. Fact.

Is that a plan for social engineering, and wealth redistribution? Yes. Fact.

Did Obummer say, "Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket." (January 2008) Yes. Fact.

Check it yourself-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlTxGHn4sH4

Are both of these examples of socialism/statism? Yes. Absolutley. Fact.

Are the "evil rich" as painfully affected by these more inflated gas prices, or do the middle class, small businesses, and the poor suffer more as a result of these inflated prices? Answer-No. And yes. Facts.

Could Obummer lower the cost of gas at the pump with one single speech? Yes. Fact. All he would have to do is lift the moratorium on drilling, and open up the land that is already under lease to oil companies. Fact. Will he do that? No. Fact.

Did Bush lower the cost of oil/gasoline by using this exact method? Yes. Fact.

Does the entire planet run on petroleum based energy? Yes. Fact.

Will the world stop drilling just because Obummer wishes it? No. Fact.

Will our economy suffer as a direct result of Obummer's actions? Yes. Without question.

Does everything get more expensive when the price of oil skyrockets? Yes. Fact.

Who is affected more by the rising costs of groceries, clothing, gas, etc. Yes, that's right. The poor! Fact.

Was BP Oil Obummer's largest coporate donor during the 2008 campaign? Yes. Fact.

Oil is now trading at $107.00 a barrel, and Obummer has done absolutley nothing to try and lower that cost. Fact.

And finally, and this is the big one-Is the Obummer Admin. in contempt of court for refusing to allow deep water drilling after a federal judge's ruling? Yes. Fact.

Here--->http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-02-03/u-s-administration-in-contempt-over-gul...

So the bottom line is that this whole shit storm is absolutley political! To try and claim that I am trying to turn this into a political argument is insane! It has everything to do with politics, Pdog! Just look at the FACTS!

Get back to me when you have a cogent argument, because as of now, your point is moot, and your argument is not supported by any facts. Fact.

Here's another FACT for you-Obummer sucks!

Gazza I shall remain civil. I was just responding to post that is, by it's very nature, political given the circumstances. However, as the facts are so painfully obvious to anyone that does not have partisan blinders on, I shall refrain from commenting further.

As a commodity that's bought and sold on the open world market, the day to day price is at the whim of these markets now and forever. Think, stock market, a positive blip and the market reacts or overeacts and vice versa.

We've never had much control other than a very short term a la above points.

The industrialized world's massive growth and with it the tremendous increase in petroleum use has the ultimate long term control.

Basic facts, I know, but well worth mentioning.

Hi Rick!

Its $3.50 and climbing here in DC suburbs.  High gas prices means high food prices.   While gas prices are volatile, food prices will remain high.

Of course, this will adversely impact any potential economic recovery in US, and devastate many folks who are already living on the edge.

FG!

What cars do you all drive though. Americans drive ridiculously large vehicles, so maybe hardship for you is downsizing from a V8 to a V6. Oh, the pain !!!

Audi A3 tdi, 56 mpg and it costs me £65 to fill up (approx $90). My BMW is off the road as at 35mpg, its not economically viable to use any more.

Isn't it somewhat misleading to compare Euro & American gas prices ?

Isn't the difference mostly, or entirely how fuel is taxed ?
It's my understanding that fuel is more heavily taxed in Europe, so if Europeans are benefitting from that tax revenue while Americans might be paying out-of-pocket for whatever benefits, then ultimately there's not much difference.

I'm sure there's probably something I'm missing here.
I'd like to know what some posters from Europe think about this.

18 cents per gallon in US is Federal tax that goes to the Interstate Highway Fund
State taxes vary
In Kansas it is additional 26 cents per gallon tax that goes directly to the Kansas Department of Transportation.  And we have a very highly maintained highway and road system because of it.

We jumped to $3.47 from $3.38 in a week.

http://ooida.truckmiles.com/page.asp?pg=FuelPrices.asp

That link will show you how much fuel taxes vary by state in the US.

I work in the automotive industry and I believe these tips to be mostly true.
It may not save you a ton of money, but they will help you stretch your buck, or quid, or euro just a bit.

Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground the more dense the gasoline, when it gets warmer gasoline expands, so buying in the afternoon or in the evening....your gallon is not exactly a gallon. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and the temperature of the gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products plays an important role.

A 1-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the service stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps.

When you're filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a fast mode If you look you will see that the trigger has three (3) stages: low, middle, and high. You should be pumping on low mode, thereby minimizing the vapors that are created while you are pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapor return. If you are pumping on the fast rate, some of the liquid that goes to your tank becomes vapor. Those vapors are being sucked up and back into the underground storage tank so you're getting less worth for your money.

One of the most important tips is to fill up when your gas tank is HALF FULL. The reason for this is the more gas you have in your tank the less air occupying its empty space. Gasoline evaporates faster than you can imagine. Gasoline storage tanks have an internal floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance between the gas and the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation. Unlike service stations, here where I work, every truck that we load is temperature compensated so that every gallon is actually the exact amount.

Another reminder, if there is a gasoline truck pumping into the storage tanks when you stop to buy gas, DO NOT fill up; most likely the gasoline is being stirred up as the gas is being delivered, and you might pick up some of the dirt that normally settles on the bottom.

You also do not have the natural resources that the US has with regards to crude oil reserves, shale oil, natural gas, coal, etc. Not to mention that the UK could fit in to the state of Texas over four times! The UK's population is just over 61 million. The USA's population is over 330 million! Quite the difference, huh?!

Our horrid president could lower the price of gasoline (and every other consumable) with one speech. Liberals are desperately trying to claim that he won't drill because of some insane moral reason. That is crap! He won't offer to drill because he wants to redistribute wealth period! Who suffers? The poor! Do any liberals here really think Obummer gives two shits about the poor?! Really?! LOL!

Oh, and to try and make the claim that the US could follow Europe's example on health care is a joke. (Not that you did mind you....) Ask the women of the UK who are constantly refused the most effective prescriptions for breast/ovarian cancer how great "free health care" is! The mortality rate for cancer is considerably higher in all of Europe than it is in the USA. It's not even close in fact. Here are a few facts that liberals can't, or won't, answer for---

Fact No. 1:  Americans have better survival rates than Europeans for common cancers.[1]  Breast cancer mortality is 52 percent higher in Germany than in the United States, and 88 percent higher in the United Kingdom.  Prostate cancer mortality is 604 percent higher in the U.K. and 457 percent higher in Norway.  The mortality rate for colorectal cancer among British men and women is about 40 percent higher.

Fact No. 2:  Americans have lower cancer mortality rates than Canadians.[2]  Breast cancer mortality is 9 percent higher, prostate cancer is 184 percent higher and colon cancer mortality among men is about 10 percent higher than in the United States.

Fact No. 3:  Americans have better access to treatment for chronic diseases than patients in other developed countries.[3]  Some 56 percent of Americans who could benefit are taking statins, which reduce cholesterol and protect against heart disease.  By comparison, of those patients who could benefit from these drugs, only 36 percent of the Dutch, 29 percent of the Swiss, 26 percent of Germans, 23 percent of Britons and 17 percent of Italians receive them.

Fact No. 4:  Americans have better access to preventive cancer screening than Canadians.[4]  Take the proportion of the appropriate-age population groups who have received recommended tests for breast, cervical, prostate and colon cancer:

•Nine of 10 middle-aged American women (89 percent) have had a mammogram, compared to less than three-fourths of Canadians (72 percent).
•Nearly all American women (96 percent) have had a pap smear, compared to less than 90 percent of Canadians.
•More than half of American men (54 percent) have had a PSA test, compared to less than 1 in 6 Canadians (16 percent).
•Nearly one-third of Americans (30 percent) have had a colonoscopy, compared with less than 1 in 20 Canadians (5 percent).
Fact No. 5:  Lower income Americans are in better health than comparable Canadians.  Twice as many American seniors with below-median incomes self-report "excellent" health compared to Canadian seniors (11.7 percent versus 5.8 percent).  Conversely, white Canadian young adults with below-median incomes are 20 percent more likely than lower income Americans to describe their health as "fair or poor

http://www.ncpa.org/pub/ba649

As for public education? Keep in mind, liberals run our education system...

I'm asking any liberal on this board to explain this video to me?! Answer for this libs!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-piPkgAUo0w

We spend more per child for our public education than any Western country on the planet, and we see the results of that boondoggle! Crap! Liberals continue to say, "Spend more on education!" Yet the results suck! Why should I, the taxpayer, be forced to pay more for a system that does not work, and does work by design?! The money does not go to the kids! Only the most brainwashed among believe that crap! The unions in the US education system are designed to help two groups of people period-the teachers, and the Democrats. It's a ponzi scheme. Liberals tell the students to go to hell.

Liberalism is a lie. Period. The end.

Progressivism is regressive. Period. The end.

Oh, and btw, I drive a 2005 Lincoln Towncar 4.6 liter V8, and I love it, thank you very much! Plus if I hit a tree I live, the tree dies. The moron that drives that crap little tin can car dies, and the tree lives.

Hey SCL you may not like it, but at least I'm doing my best to keep things civil. Unlike you, I might add. Every single thing that I just posted is 100% true and provably so. I have provided links, and even a video that proves that the NEA outgoing president admits that the union is all about power and has dick all to do with educating kids. Would you care to address any of the points that I raise? Or are you just going to continue to offer personal insults? It must suck to have to argue for the man-child president when there are zero facts to back up such a specious argument, and empty point of view.

Stay classy SCL!!  Kiss my undercover ass Kiss my undercover ass Kiss my undercover ass
