So ,they have used legislators, bought and paid for to prevent that from happening. Talk - Action = Shit! Sorry everyone is suffering from high prices, but if you were willing to really sacrafice, we could have a solution, like the rest of the world seems to have found in developed nations. They built public transportation and developed alternative sources... They don't say drill more, with fuels that are finite and at the same time pollute to the point we our aiding our own extinction. Perfect example, we developed solar technology, oil companies slandered it, certain political leaning people slam it as a joke, and now China is using it to great success. This big giant ball of free clean nuclear energy at our disposal, and we ignore it....
americans, take note, you get what you pay for... you wanted cheap fuel, you get cheap fuel... and if history didn't teach you anything, cheap shit breaks and doesn't last and costs more in the long run!!! Duh, LOSING!!!

As a commodity that's bought and sold on the open world market, the day to day price is at the whim of these markets now and forever. Think, stock market, a positive blip and the market reacts or overeacts and vice versa.

We've never had much control other than a very short term a la above points.

The industrialized world's massive growth and with it the tremendous increase in petroleum use has the ultimate long term control.

Basic facts, I know, but well worth mentioning.

Americans drive ridiculously large vehicles, so maybe hardship for you is downsizing from a V8 to a V6. Oh, the pain !!! Audi A3 tdi, 56 mpg and it costs me £65 to fill up (approx $90). My BMW is off the road as at 35mpg, its not economically viable to use any more.

Isn't it somewhat misleading to compare Euro & American gas prices ?

Isn't the difference mostly, or entirely how fuel is taxed ?
It's my understanding that fuel is more heavily taxed in Europe, so if Europeans are benefitting from that tax revenue while Americans might be paying out-of-pocket for whatever benefits, then ultimately there's not much difference.

I'm sure there's probably something I'm missing here.
I'd like to know what some posters from Europe think about this.
