I was wondering, were Dutch parents in 1964 the only parents in the world who, just gotten a little used to the Beatles, went nuts when they saw or heard the Rolling Stones, those ugly longhaired monsters from England with this terrible noise/music, or was this the case around the world?? Do the older ones on this board remember?
The dutch were certainly not alone, In Canada it was the same way, I never heard so much of the word ugly to describe them as anything I ever heard, in fact one of our top 60's bands in Toronto, who were formerly called The Strolling Bones changed their name to The Ugly Ducklings, & opened for The Stones at Maple leaf Gardens in '66.
There were stories all about the Stones, like the time they were at the Montreal Airport, there was a lot of commotion because they went into the Women's washroom, when they were on the Ed Sullivan show there was talk for weeks about this band with the guy with the liver lips, one guy with blond hair over his eyes with bags around his eyes, & so on, there was a lot of excitement with the Stones, & we all loved the stories, we would never hear this about Gerry & The Pacemakers, DC5 or Herman hermits.
