Ahh, missed that concert. I was only fourteen years old at the time, no way my parents would let me go to that concert, those terrible horrifying Rolling Stones. My fathers head almost exploded when he read about them in the newspapers, or saw them on TV. He just really hated this new groups and new music, and the angrier he got the more we loved it, miss those times! The outsiders were a dutch group who made really great music, and they had really, really long hair. You should have seen and hear my father. My God,those were the days!!

I was wondering, were Dutch parents in 1964 the only parents in the world who, just gotten a little used to the Beatles, went nuts when they saw or heard the Rolling Stones, those ugly longhaired monsters from England with this terrible noise/music, or was this the case around the world?? Do the older ones on this board remember?

The dutch were certainly not alone, In Canada it was the same way, I never heard so much of the word ugly to describe them as anything I ever heard, in fact one of our top 60's bands in Toronto, who were formerly called The Strolling Bones changed their name to The Ugly Ducklings, & opened for The Stones at Maple leaf Gardens in '66.

There were stories all about the Stones, like the time they were at the Montreal Airport, there was a lot of commotion because they went into the Women's washroom, when they were on the Ed Sullivan show there was talk for weeks about this band with the guy with the liver lips, one guy with blond hair over his eyes with bags around his eyes, & so on, there was a lot of excitement with the Stones, & we all loved the stories, we would never hear this about Gerry & The Pacemakers, DC5 or Herman hermits.

Hey, I have an Ugly Ducklings CD too....Smiley

At first, my parents {well, Mom especially--Dad was mostly busy working!} thought the Beatles were pretty far out.....that is, until she saw the Stones! Oh my.......she hated them most of all. I was never sure why, especially knowing the first pic she saw of them....Brian in a nice white sweater, Mick and Keith in nice button down shirts, Bill in a nice dark sweater and Charlie in a suit! But, they must have looked........scary. And dangerous. lol
