What albums (outside of the Stones) capture Mick Taylor, and Ronnie Wood at their respective bests?
Doesn't just have to be solo albums but can be their work with other bands etc. taylor made smile Ouch!

I want to put a band together and I'm trying to get a feel for different guitar playing styles so anything that really captures their respective guitar playing techniques/styles would be great.

"A Nod is as Good as a Wink" is great for Woodie, but most of his stuff is great.

John Mayall's "Crusade" is pretty awesome, but like with Woodie, if you dig it, get it all.  You won't be disappointed.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=he8OLo9HPJs I hear some Freddie King in 'im, so tasty!

With Ronnie I would say all Faces albums with him, especially "A Nod, etc" & "Long Player" his solo albums are good too, I really like "I've got my own album to do" as noted in another thread, he is a great songwriter, but never got the chance with The Stones, everything is Jagger/Richards.

And Mick Taylor, all albums with John Mayall, especially "Crusade" I really like Bare Wires, Blues from Laurel Canyon & The Blues Alone.

MICK TAYLOR
  • Check his solo albums
  • Check Mick Taylor's lead on "Vacation" the opening track of Blues From Laurel Canyon!
  • Check his album with Carla Olson
  • Check his live album with Jack Bruce, and ask Eric Clapton to learn from this one
  • Check Infidels by Bod Dylan
RONNIE WOOD
  • Love al of his solo albums, specially Gimme Some Neck and his last one, I Feel like Playing
  • Of the Stones, the one with the best solo albums is Ronnie Wood, his solo albums are better than any other
  • His album with Ronnie Lane Mahoney's Last Stand is pretty good
  • As mentioned, his albums with the Faces
  • ...and don't forget it, his live album at the Ritz with Bo Diddley

One of Ronnie Wood's finest ever moments. A song of amazing beauty and one of my favorite tracks Stones or non-Stones. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0Vcvo_gD98

I don't believe that Mick actually played on the Blues Alone LP.

And you're right Captain, Mick is not there, all intruments are played by John Mayall with exception of some drums by Keef Hartley. On the back of the album you can read the instruments John plays on each track and at the end the following text is added

"All instruments played by John Mayall with the exception of the drums on tracks 2, 4, 6, 9, 9, 10, 11 and 12 which are played by Keef Hartley."

Ronnie does genius work on nearly every track on Rod Stewart's first four solo albums.  Not to be missed, or underestimated, as most of the other original Faces are on these records.
