Gabrielle Giffords, a congresswoman from Arizona, was shot and killed today, January 8, 2011, at a public event outside a Safeway grocery store.

A spokesman for the Pima County sheriff says that at least 12 people were shot, with at least 6 fatalities. The Tucson Citizen reports that Rep. Giffords was "shot point blank in the head."

I just listened to the hospital spokesperson saying (on live TV) the Representative in in surgery, but in critical condition.

she was on one of Palins "hit lists".

it is possible to get other people fired up and mad enough to do this for you.... Hitler never once as far as I know, said he wanted to kill millions of Jews before or during the War... I beleive he only made reference to it, during his final speech... and I'm not saying Palin is Hitler...  I do think she is very calculating and manipulative, and knows exactly what is going on, and is inciting extremists with her talk. This isn't political because she quit politics to talk... and she isn't responsible for this event, it pisses me off, she created a hit list, and she openly talks of gun rights with zero responsibiltiy and has encouraged people to take drastic action. I'm looking forward to her Twitter response on this...

The makers of the strip search machines are lobbying Congress hard. They would love to sell even more of them.

The last line of defense in favor of our freedom and 4th Amendment rights is the federal judiciary.

A congresswoman was shot and a federal judge was killed in a SUPERMARKET.

Some day "If you don't like it, don't fly" will become "if you don't like it don't eat."

So what are you scared of, if you not carrying anything illegal then it becomes another pain in ass that one has to endure. Some airports are exploring private security and getting rid of TSA. If it becomes too difficult to travel, then people will bitch enough that the politcans will step in and really fuck things up.

This was outrageous, but (sadly) not surprising.  I am in complete agreement with Sheriff Dupnik's assessment.  I hope we haven't reached the point of no return.

Oh, and for your info, the judge that was killed was a conservative federal judge appointed by George H W Bush. This guy's politics didn't have a damned thing to do with this horrific event. The fact that he was mentally unstable is the only reason that he did it.
