A blog from December 4th and three weeks later not a single newswire in the world has reported this sensational exclusive?

Sounds a bit dubious to me, to be honest.

As mentioned in the 'summit' thread, the band did meet earlier this month - just the four of them with no outsiders or management - but there are still as yet no agreed plans for 2011. They'll be meeting again early in the new year - February, so I was told.

Some very interesting new Stones news!

I've been in touch with a couple of my closest insiders in the last few days and have heard some very interesting new news on the Boys for next year. Because of one of the things I was told, I cannot tell you who said what to me, other than this news was confirmed as being as close to the truth as it could be, this coming from two different insiders in the last week.

First, I'm not going in any order here, just as I type it all out...

On a new Stones studio album..... Yes, we were told by both Keith and Mick that work would be started on a new studio LP around this time. Yet the insiders are now saying it isn't going to happen at all - other than maybe a possibly of a Tattoo You type of new L.P. That's it. So you got to wonder what happened to all those new songs Keith talked about?

Tour for 2011..... They are still working on plans for it, but... the 2011 tour has problems right now. Some are starting to say that the Stones just want to wait till 2012 to tour. Seems they can't decided at the moment which venues (size wise) they want to use, with over-head costs getting in the way. The band can't decide how long they want to tour for either - if they should do some short dates in '11 here and there, ones that would run for a few weeks and then end for a few more weeks and then start up again, and then go back out and do more short dates in the same way for the '12 tour. Seems the band is split on wanting to do this verses doing one long tour. My guess is Keith would be against such a few weeks at a time deal and MJ is for it (but that is only me guessing here, and since short dates would cost them more in overhead, if you look at it in that light, MJ would be against such a move, you would think). Then finally, should they just do a one year tour on two continents, or 2 years on four continents?.... So yes, they are still talking about a tour, but the questions remain if they will still pull one off in '11 or not. Insides are guessing late in '11 they will start up and run through '12 with it and just end up touring as they did in the past with no real breaks. But again, that is a guess relayed to me by one of my two main insiders who is hearing this from others. One thing for sure, planning such a tour is a lot of work, and they are still planning a new tour. Only question is - for '11, or for '12?

Here is the most interesting and strange piece of news yet! This is the bit I was told about where I can't say who told me this because few know about this and the ones that do aren't sure what it means. Anyway, the band got together about a week ago in the UK to discuss the possibilities of a 2011 Tour and to find out where things were. Since 1994, "the band" always meant Mick, Keith, Charlie & Ronnie. But - at this 2011 Tour meeting, Bill Wyman was in attendance!! Those close to the band are not sure what this means. It might not mean anything at all other than Bill was visiting with Mick and ended up in attendance at the meeting (MJ and BW are still close friends to this day and they still visit with each other from time to time). But the fact nobody inside the Stones camp wants anyone to know about this - well could that mean something? Would Bill be back on board for some dates? Also as I have noted in the past, the Stones will leak news like this to folks like myself and Stonesdoug just to stir up excitement. I'm not sure what Stonesdoug has heard on this, but Bill was at that meeting, and that's all I know. So yes, it's very interesting news to say the least; and all I can say is, too bad MT wasn't at the meeting too! I and most fans would love to see all six of of them together again on this tour!

In a closing note, I learned some very interesting tidbits about a few falsehoods reported in Keith's new book, which I'm not ready to talk about yet, since I still haven't finished reading the entire book (I'm almost done). So sometime after Xams I'll get back on this. But just so you know, it isn't anything that big, just proof that Keef, regardless of what he claims, doesn't remember everything correctly, or at the least, he likes to change history around a bit. I know, Mr Riffhard changing Stones history around is old news to us old Stones fans, but when you have people who he wrote about saying what he wrote wasn't how the story went down, well, what can you say to that? Again, I'll talk about this in more detail when I review the book here after Xmas. Cheers to all, Keno.

Thanks LJ ~ Bill in attendance seems important if it is to be a '50 year anniversary' tour in 2012, and it means Europe since Bill can drive around instead of fly. 2011 is only days away so even if they do something in 2011, which seems uncertain at this point, it would have to be later in the year. I wonder if they really need to put out a new album before the tour, because if they do they better start knocking it out soon!

Dont they usually start in the U.S. around September? They got 9 mths to iron things out.

I feel they should just say its the last one and be done with it. Waiting for 2012 is ridiculous. Thats a 7 yr gap from ABB and the start of that tour. Either do it or dont. They'll be 70 before anything happens.

Keith needs to give in and do the short run route. A few shows here and there. Rather than business as usual and same old grind.

If they cant be arsed making a new record, they may as well give up.  Similarly, if they are going to leave touring until 2012.

Three greatest hits tours in a row? Touring again at their age after five years of inactivity?

Too horrific to contemplate.  No thanks. The longer they wait the less appealing it all sounds.

If thats the only scenario, they should save themselves the embarrassment and open the vaults instead.  It's really becoming more and more apparent that their hearts really aren't in this, unfortunately.

Whilst I'd love to see some more shows, if their age and inactivity means that by the time they tour the performances will be substandard, then thats not the way to bow out and not the way I'd wish to remember them.  Nor is another nostalgia trek through the warhorses - there's no point in going through the motions of making a new record, telling everyone how good it is and that its made to be played live, and then abandoning it after a few months.

Heavy (almost hear you) sigh. Yeah, that sure seems like the truth. For all his bravado. I don't really think Keith is into going out and give a serious effort and I don't want to see another two years of posing. At least Ronnie and Charlie are out there playing the kind of music they want for the love of it.A concept seemingly foriegn to Mick & Keith.

Gazza...in no way do I want ( or feel like i am worthy of ) putting words in your mouth...but, to me, this is like saying they should take residency in 3-5 cites, for 4-8 weeks each ... and put on the best shows they know how to put on...no road hassles...low overhead...KILLER shows...5 per week for 5 weeks in London, NYC, Vegas, Paris, SFO...fill in your choice...

War horses...b sides...LP featured shows...rarities...as one would say..."for the fans"...

a dream, I know...but a logical one...IMHO

ps...Open up the vaults...YES!!! PLEASE!!! WHY NOT?!? IT WILL HAPPEN AFTER YOU ARE GONE, SO WHY NOT NOW?!?

Thank you for sharing, LJ.

Well, the ‘news’ regarding a potential new studio LP is somewhat disappointing – but then again: they wouldn’t bloody promote it, anyway – would they?

As for Bill Wyman: it’s more interesting than exciting. As this’ll be the last tour, I can perfectly imagine him on stage for a London show or two.

That would do me. 100%. (it'd be no more than about 3-4 shows in a week though, as Mick cant sing for 2 nights in a row..but your point is still valid...)

In 10-20 years, no one will give a shit about what they have in their vaults, though. Most of whats left of their fanbase will be either deaf or dead. The last 12 months has seen them slowly starting to realise that, I think.

Sounds to me like the boys don't have the energy anymore to be creative or re-create the same old war horse show. maybe a few 50th anniversary shows in 2012 (but why bother?)...Personally I'd rather see them let it go than risk an embarassment where nobody is happy etc.......They don't owe me nothing

All true, but what about the stories KEEF likes to tell about all the old American Black musicians like BB King who is 88 and Hubert Sumlin who is 80 and Chuck Berry who is an old man and is playing 2 shows this New Years Eve, and a bunch of other old timers who contuinue play? These are the men who KEEF has always aspired to be like, so the RS will not stop touring ever, not until one of them drops dead. Maybe the shows will be fewer and far between, but there will never be a Farewell Tour or a Goodbye Tour. Not happening. The problem I precieve is that the RS tour style must evolve, and they are stuck in a pattern that may not work anymore, and are afraid of change. To alter the normal way of doing the tour, it might be an admission of age or not being capable of a big tour and that could hurt MICK's ego, which is large yet fragile. Consider the lyrics in BOMH ~ love and mysery jamming side by side on the stage This song represents MICK & KEEF, the yin and yang of the RS,and self descriptive. IMO. I see it in these lyrics, they are speaking of their future.

BACK OF MY HAND
(M. Jagger/K. Richards)

I hear a preacher on the corner
Ranting like a crazy man
He says there's trouble, troubles are coming
I can read it like the back of my hand

I see love, I see misery
Jamming side by side on the stage
In the wind some mournful melody
I can read it like the back of my hand

The back of my hand.....  Oh yeah

Oh yeah....

I see dreams, I see visions
Images I don't understand
I see Goya's paranoias
I can read it like the back of my hand

Well, read it like the back of my hand
Oh yeah, wow yeah
Wow yeah
Read it like the back of my hand

What Keith says he 'aspires to' and what Keith 'does' are often two very different things. As can be seen by his almost total lack of performing outside of the confines of a Stones tour for the last 15 years or so.

Plus the fact that regardless of whether Keith wants to tour, its not just down to him.
