The Best Album of...

Alert Board Moderator about this Post!
We have become a place of lists since about 1990 it seems...

I recall when Rolling Stone ( I think) named LONDON CALLING the best album of the 80's ( though it did come out in Dec  1979 in UK, Jan 1980 in US )

I pretty much agree with that...

Wondering...what would be on your list for the Best Of The Decades, 60's, 70's 80's 90's and 00's.

I might take the informal survey and give them as a gift to someone after the New Year for their birthday.

Black Album- Jay-Z

Really? I like 99 Problems and Jay-Z's later collaborations with Alicia Keys and Mr. Hudson - Empire State of Mind and Forever Young respectively - but have yet to make the step-up and actually purchase one of his albums. I could read reviews on Amazon or view videos on YouTube, but it'd be more fun to hear the opinion of a fellow Stones fan: so, shoot!

50s: Not a big decade for LPs. Only Elvis and a few others put out great ones for the big stars of the era.

60s:
1. Pet Sounds- Beach Boys
2. Blonde on Blonde- Bob Dylan
3. Revolver- Beatles/ Astral Weeks-Van Morrison (just can't pick one over the other and how can you not have a Beatle album in the top 3!?)

70s:
1. Exile on Main Street-Stones
2. Blood on the Tracks-Dylan
3. Rust Never Sleeps-Neil Young

80s:
1. London Calling (We'll give it 80s status so it has less to compete with)
2. Let it Be-The Replacements (Helll yes!)
3. It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold us Back-Public Enemy (seriously artistic gangsta rap represent! 90% of what passes for hip-hop today pales next to this righteous shit!)

90s:
1. Car Wheels-Lucinda (Gotta side with Gazza on this one)
2. Nevermind-Nirvana
3. Ok Computer-Radiohead

00s:
1. Love & Theft-Dylan
2. Smile-Brian Wilson
3. White Blood Cells-White Stripes

(This last decade is the one I listen to least so my list isn't as educated on that one, hehe. Not totally up to my 90s knowledge either but have listened to a ton of 60s-80s albums).

Well, you may as well dub Abbey Road and Let It Bleed as 70’s masterpieces, then!

No, No, No! I have to put my foot down, here. London Calling was recorded in the 1970’s and released in 1979. North America got it a few months later, but that doesn’t make it an 80’s album. It’s the initial release that counts.
