Thought maybe she fell carrying a plate of ribs......and c'mon Aretha we know you wll have more than one hot dog at Coney Island......

By WENN.COM

Aretha Franklin has been forced to cancel two concerts in New York after breaking her ribs in a fall on Sunday.

The Respect hitmaker was due to take to the stage for two free gigs in Brooklyn next Monday and Thursday, but the shows have been axed following a freak accident over the weekend.

Franklin underwent a thorough examination by doctors who diagnosed broken ribs and the singer has been experiencing abdominal pain since the fall, according to the Associated Press.

She's been ordered to rest and will miss the two scheduled shows, but Franklin is hoping to reschedule them for late August.

In a statement she says, "(I am) very much looking forward to being in Brooklyn and having a foot-long hot dog at Coney Island."

Franklin needs to get her act together or stay off the stage.

Two years in a row she cancelled out on Jazz Fest, the second time at the last minute with no reason given.
It's a wonder she can keep a band together and any promoter would be crazy to take a chance on her.

Ok, that was funny....
Its a shame. This woman has what is maybe the greatest voice in the history of popular music, and she's gotten lazy. Its not even about a comeback or working with a Rick Rubin or something along the lines of Bettye Lavette working with the Drive-by Truckers, getting some hipster creed etc....
No, Aretha's voice is shot to hell, literally. She's said that she lost her range because of all those years of pushing her voice and that makes sense. That happened to Mick. But worse, she doesn't seem to care anymore. She's a sublime artist and most people under the age of 30 just think of her as some fat chick and make jokes.
She needs a resurgence.

I've loved Aretha from the beginning.  To this day Chain of Fools will cause me to leap from my chair and indulge in my decades old feel good choreography.   If that song ever comes on when I'm shopping y'all better clear the aisles because there is GOING to be a spill.  It saddens me too, texile, when people not old enough (or wise enough) to appreciate her talent think only of her as a fat chick.

I hope she has invested wisely for at least part of her career so she won't have to go on the road to pay bills.  My hope for Aretha is that she take a temporary (or permanent) retirement and address her health issues.  I want her to stay around for many more years whether she is singing or not.

Chain of Fools! Perfect example of Aretha's grit. She just sang the shit out of that song. She could do it all, sing delicately and then just belt it out.....No one will ever come close and its sad that her legacy is only known to people our age.

Ginda, if you ever come across a copy of Rare and Unreleased Recordings from the Golden Reign of the Queen of Soul, don't hesitate. You may have to order it, but its worth it. Its Aretha at her most raw and in his artistic prime. I had a hard time listening to anything else for about two months.

Thanks, texile.  Your recommendation is good enough for me.  I'll go googling!
