Back in the 70s and early 80s in New Orleans, there was a concert venue on Tchoupitoulas Street known as "A Warehouse."

This place was a real rathole, an old cotton warehouse from the 1800's in a really seedy neighborhood along the Mississippi River.
When The Grateful Dead played Wharf Rat they were probably singing to one.

Kids from the nearby housing projects would demand a quarter ($0.25) to watch your car for you while you were at the show.
Somehow, those kids were never there when you returned to your car!  Grin

The actual building (which no longer exists) was the same as it was a hundred years ago.
No heat, no air conditioning, the only seats were wooden bleachers around the outside walls.
The story goes that if you brought in a piece of carpet large enough for a few people to sit on, you would get your ticket for free.
I've been to A Warehouse a few times, but never bothered to drag a piece of carpet there with me.

Even if you never were lucky enough to freeze or sweat your ass off at this nasty place, you may like looking at the link below.

Check out some of the artists that played at this dump! There are even links to concert posters, ticket stubs, etc:

“What rap did that was impressive was to show there are so many tone-deaf people out there,” he says. “All they need is a drum beat and somebody yelling over it and they’re happy. There’s an enormous market for people who can’t tell one note from another.” - Keef

Cool site.
Lotsa great acts played there.

The Dead's infamous New Orleans drug bust happened on The Warehouse's opening weekend, and was immortalized in 'Truckin''.

"Busted, down on Bourbon Street.
Set up, like a bowling pin.

Knocked down, it gets to wearin' thin.
They just won't let you be. Oh no."
