USA vs England next saturday. That's a great way to get started. Also rooting for Germany. But predicting Brazil to win.

Italy won the last World Cup - beating France on penalties in Berlin, with Zinedine Zidane being sent off near the end for a headbutt.

Its every four years.

Spain won the  last European Championship - but that was 2008.

They would be favourites to win the World Cup as well.

And I think they will.

I dont expect Germany, France or Italy to do as well as they usually do. England have a great coach and some excellent individual players, but not enough strength in depth in their squad to deal with players getting injured or suspended. Holland are probably the best side in Europe after Spain and are a good bet unless their players fall out with each other as they usually do. Argentina have probably the strongest side on paper and in Messi have the greatest player on the planet, but they struggled to qualify and Maradona is a loose cannon as a coach. Its not the strongest ever Brazil side but there arent a lot of outstanding sides in international football at the minute and (unusually for them) they have a good defence, so they shouldnt be too far away.  They're in a tough group though to begin with, with Portugal and Ivory Coast.

Cant wait. And I'll probably be watching the opening game on a big screen in Prague's Wenceslas Square with a nice cold Budvar.

Okay..I filled in the form and by accident created a final between the Netherlands and Germany. In which my squad will finally win that cup. The road will be long and hard, with a match against Italy in the first round of the knock-out stage (0-0 and penalties...) Brazil in the QF (4-3 win..yes I'm nuts) a semi-final against England (3-2 win) and a clean 2-0 victory over the Germans in the final. Unlikely, I know..but expect me to be drunk for a month if they pull it off..

Surprise of the tournament will be Cameroon: I pushed them to the semi's because they'll kick out Spain in the QF...

There was some bad news today though: Robben left the field with a leg injury today, he'll be in the hospital for the rest of the weekend to see if it's minor or major..he's a big key in the succes of the Dutch, I guess Van Nistelrooy will be added to the squad if Robben's unable to play...but still.

You guys still awake???

Yes, not long to go now!

I'm usually out on a Saturday evening, but have persuaded my friend to change it to the Friday. I simply cannot miss our boys whipping the yanks 10-0! I'm not one for watching football in the pub, so I'll be observing from the sofa.

Predictions? England will reach the quarter finals before blowing it. It'll be a Brazil vs. Spain final with the former coming out on tops.

@Sweetcharmedlife: it's not gonna happen. Under normal conditions England is in another league than the USA. Their goal's probably to minimize the damage against England and try to get through to the next stage with the second place.

@Gazza: I agree...not Zidane's smartest move, but that asshole had it coming..

Well, perhaps '10-0' is a just a tad optomistic, then. We'll stuff ya 2-1 - how's that for being more of a realist?  Wink

Like I said earlier. USA and England are my teams.  Given our past HTM, it would be right to assume that you would murder us.  But I have watched our team make real progress in the qualifying matches and compared to the last World Cup, I'd say we are pretty decent and able to hang with the "big boys"...I  am hoping it will be an historical match.  US the real football could use a big boost of confidence... Wink Wink

Either way..can't wait to watch it! Cool

This ain't necessarily NSC - I remember MJ attended an English match in '06 (vs. Trini and Tobago or Sweden, can't remember.. or was is Portugal?).  Let's just say the US won't have an excuse for being in the group of death this time - my prediction:
US - 5 points
England - 4 points
Slovenia - 4 points
Algeria - 3 points

I'd be shocked if the US won against England.  We aren't in the same league.  It's a bit like putting the best college football team in the country against a really good NFL team.  They more than likely won't get blown off the field, but a win isn't probable.

If I had to put money on who is going to take the cup....my money would be on Mexico.
