haha...

I'm pulling for Germany... my 2nd team...
very proud of my country's team... they did very well, at least after the 45 minute mark.

Are you of German ancestry ? If not, there is only one country you should be rooting for and it’s the nation who colonised your slab of land all ‘em years ago!

No, seriously, you guys did well and should be proud to have made it out of the group stages. Hopefully, your exploits will heighten the awareness and you’ll get more kids wanting to play the sport. Donovan and co have done more for U.S. the real football than brand Beckham could ever do.

I don't think I could have taken another game from the USA had they won!

Scrappy players with guts and determination, but they ran out of gas.  Best USA World Cup team we've ever had.  Maybe there IS hope for the future!

So tomorrow I cheer for my number 2 team.  Please, Rooney, show up to play!!

Well, we all know how it started, don’t we?

No. it’s a pretty friendly form of rivalry these days.

Of course the war plays a part among the older generations. In the Netherlands people are never going to forget the 74 world cup, when Germany beat the Dutch dream team in the final. Then the orange boys won the semi-final of Euro 88 after which a rivalry started between the teams. It got ugly in 1990, but in recent years it's gotten more friendly. There's more mutual respect these days. I was at the university the other week when the Germans lost against the Serbs. Students were actually venting their dissapointments. 20 years ago they would've been tarred and feathered, now most people actually agreed.

Sorry to see team USA go btw. They put up a good fight in the second half, but in the extra time the energy was gone..

That might account for the wedding ring!

Anyway, they're at the England - Germany game too. Jagger was on-camera singing GSTQ - and then quite visibly noticed that he had been picked out by the cameras.....

For those of us with a very limited knowledge of Matt Clifford, can someone please explain who he is and how he relates to Mick?

He's Mick's water-boy.

Played keyboards on the 1989-90 Stones tour and been a regular collaborator on solo work ever since. Also played a bit on ABB.

This will probably be the only time we'll see Mick sing in 2010.

Photos from today's game from Stonesplanetbrazil. Thanks to Andre Ribeiro.

...

Anyway - England 2-0 down after half an hour. Looks like 'Jagger The Jinx''s 100% record is safe, unfortunately.

'66 was a debatable decision. That one wasnt even close. Absolute fucking robbery and another embarrassment for a billion dollar sport which refuses to move out of the dark ages and use technology which would have cleared that error up in seconds. Everyone but FIFA seems to want this.  You cant really blame the ref - if he doesnt see something, he cant give it. FIFA refuse to make his job easier.

That said, England should have been about four down by the time they got a goal back. They were being outplayed and the two goals they conceded were criminal.

Theyve come back well but maybe the break will give Germany a chance to compose themselves again.

Dear God. They were well in the game until that 1-2. Worst defending against German opposition since Dunkirk.

That decision was horrifying and Blatter is the worst head of FIFA there has ever been. However, England were shocking in the first half and even worse in the second. People can talk about the goal but they were useless in almost every game and didn't even deserve to get out of the group. Honestly there can be few excuses for this. Germany were just considerably superior. They passed beautifully, moved well, finished, and were just miles ahead of England.

Agree totally, unfortunately. If anything, it was better to lose 4-1 than to lose to the disallowed goal. No arguments needed.

Another tournament of abject performances. If I saw goals conceded like that in the Irish League, I'd be hounding the players responsible out of the club. Yet David James in goal was England's best player.

Maybe a blessing in disguise that they went out now. I shudder to think what Messi and Argentina would have done to that back four of England.

"Some people are having a bitch. They think the ball's over.."

Well, what an utterly despicable display we put in. Our back four were atrocious – no other way to put it. James was commanding in goal, but he was let down badly.

We could debate Lampard’s disallowed effort all evening, but it was on overall poor display and we probably would’ve lost anyway. I think we looked OK in the early stages of the second-half, before totally switching off.

There is only one thing for it now: a cap on the number of foreigners in the Premier League. As great as they are for entertainment value, we have an ageing squad and we should all fear for the future. Just how, exactly, are England’s brightest youngsters going to make it if they are squeezed out by the likes of Arsen Wenger’s Arsenal and Abramovich’s foreign regime at Chelsea?

I think it might be more complicated than that. The game at younger levels in England is not based on technical ability and things haven't changed much in the last 20 years with regards to a fast paced physical game. Kids don't play street football in the same way as kids in other countries with better technical skills. Apart from that, what about the English talent that did make it through? Upson? shocking. Even the big names of Lampard, Gerrard, and Rooney were shocking. These are players who play regularly for their clubs. I think there is an argument for restrictions simply because the coach can pick from a far bigger pool but I honestly don't think the first eleven would be that much different. English players have been technically inferior to the other countries since 1990 and have never had a team to match even smaller countries like Romania.

Well, so far my prediction still at 100%

...

And as posted before, I think Argentina is gonna win today, but just change Mexico by Argentina, the rest will be the same (now I have second thoughts about Germany, I'm sure they will beat Argentina (or Mexico)

Today first half of Germany-England was the best part of the world cup so far
