Actually, the result was quite close to how I envisaged it - certainly the second half, at least. We really struggled in the latter stages and IMO, we'll be out next round.

One crumb of comfort? The USA will be going out with us!

he also mentioned Shattered... it was afunny moment, even though I was freaking out... USA deserved to win on so many levels... I'm so glad we don't play Germany next... that's my 2nd team to support after my home country... I screamed so loud when we socred, my neighbors heard me... I haven't been this ecited over a win, since Phillie won the series...

Ghana has a good chance for the qf's but it won't be 3-0..that team is great at missing great opportunities in front of the goal. And the USA is not the best team, but they fight for every inch of the field. It won't bring them the title, but I wouldn't be surprised if they make it to the last 8. Still, of the certain matches of round 2: Ghana-USA 1-0, Germany - England 2-0, Argentina - Mexico 3-2 (extra time), Uruguay - South Korea 2-0.

I'm curious who will be the next opponent for my team: either Paraguay or Italy, who'll beat Slovakia 1-0 through an offside goal. No walkovers for the Netherlands to say the least..

I was on the road for the end of the USA game and didn't get to see it. But I listened to it on the radio and I have to say the combo of JP Delacamera and Tommy Smyth are exceptional to listen to. Not only 2 of the greatest voices you'll ever hear. But excellent calls as well. I'll remember Delacamera calling the US goal for a while. Donavan goes galloping up the left side.(I might be paraphrasing) Good stuff. Cool

A bit more like it from England yesterday. I thought they played pretty well.

Great to see the US going through - would have been an absolute travesty had they been knocked out due to two bad refereeing decisions in their last two games. They're certainly keeping it interesting with these last gasp finishes (the joke going around is that the World Cup is turming out like WW2 - the French surrender near the start, the Americans leave it to the last minute - and the English end up fighting the Germans..)

Ghana should be beatable for the US - and if they manage that, I think they'll play Uruguay or South Korea. Neither of whom are exactly world beaters. The winners of England v Germany would play Argentina or Mexico.

I know that on the first page of this thread I predicted that Italy and France wouldnt do much in this World Cup, but I sure as hell didnt expect them BOTH to finish bottom of their groups and exit so early. Behind New Zealand and South Africa respectively. Great effort from the Kiwis to leave the tournament undefeated.

Still stand by my original prediction that the only two European sides who could win this are Spain and Holland. Even though Spain have a lot to do yet to get into the knockout stages. Holland have cruised through their group with three wins in second gear. An ominous sign for everyone else.

Watched Japan - Denmark this evening and was very impressed with the Japanese. They have a cracker of a player called Honda (he plays like a Ferrari Smiley

) and will be a tough game for anyone.

Honda is amazing: he played for small Dutch team till christmas, wanted to go to Ajax or PSV Eindhoven badly but both the teams were out of funds..so now he plays in Moscow. Shame: would've loved to see him in Amsterdam.

The Dutch played with a lack of focus during the begining of the second half, hence the penalty. It could've been worse. And Robben returned and almost made the winning one (hit the pole). Huntelaar was there to finish it in the rebound.
