Great comeback by the Yanks. Looked to be a terrific game. And whats more, they were robbed.

A win v Algeria will be enough to put them through.

In fact, from what I can see if the last 3 games in the group are drawn, the USA could conceivably KO England even by just drawing with Algeria - if theyve scored more goals than England over the 3 games.

Thank you dear Gazza!
Leave it to you to figure out all the mathematical consequences for us!!!

Ok..how do I get away with standing in front of the work breakroom TV this afternoon.  At least it was lunchtime for the US game?!!!

Kind of glad I couldn't watch the game today (due to work).

I know that I missed a good game, but I would've been a mess during the game. Being down 2-0 is never fun. I just wish Bradley could get the players to be aggressive from 0", not when they are down 2-0.

They've probably a better chance than England have now, it appears!

That was utter wank. Alex, I dont think England have put in a good 90-minute performance in the World Cup finals since 2002.

After two games

Slovenia - 4 pts  Goals For/Against -  3-2
USA - 2 pts         Goals For/Against -  3-3
England - 2 pts   Goals For/Against -  1-1
Algeria - 1 pt    Goals For/Against -  0-1

Each of the four teams can still qualify and each team can still be knocked out. Any team that wins their final game will go through.

If both the final games are drawn, Slovenia and the USA will qualify - unless the draw in England's game is more than two goals greater than the draw in the USA game (eg, 3-3 and 0-0) because if the teams finish with the same points, it then is decided on goal difference and if that cant separate them, its on goals scored (currently the US lead England by 3-1). If they're still level after that, its decided by drawing lots (which has never been necessary before)

If the US beat Algeria, they will top the group unless England beat Slovenia by a greater margin.

Must say the last game was painful to watch.

At least England continues to hold one World Cup record though!

This group will be very exciting to watch next week.  Thank God for Gazza who will give us all the possibilities.  I've gotten a headache trying to figure it out.  Bottom line to my way of thinking( yeah what do I know Wink) is USA has to win big and that won"t be easy gainst Algeria.......

edit...Christ he has already figured it out Grin Fuck you Gazza, Will ya?

Thanks for the outstanding break down Gazza. England will probably still go through by beating Slovenia. Carragher missing the next match probably helps them with Dawson coming in and Capello now has the big decision of dropping one of Lampard and Gerrard. Lampard will probably be the one because they can't continue with this midfield. That will help and with those changes they'll probably beat Slovenia.

Lampard's been surpisingly poor in both games. He looks knackered - maybe our Christine has shagged him out.

Yes, damn that Christine Bleakley for exhausting our Frank. He looked positively knackered and we have to have a scapegoat, of course. There are always excuses with England.

...

Anyway, I give up. When, oh when, am I going to sit in front of the box and actually watch an England team that takes my breath away? A team that can actually string two passes together; a team that leaves you in absolute awe? The thrashing against Holland in Euro ’96 is one of my few purely joyous recollections. Then again, the first England international I watched on television was that infamous USA ’94 qualifier – so it’s not all good against those from the land of windmills and clogs.

We can’t pass, we can’t score and we seemingly cannot defend particularly well. Our Captain got crocked and had to go home; Ledley King is Mr. Injury and that souse wally managed to earn himself a suspension for the Slovenia match.

The pundits blabber on about us only needing a victory next Wednesday. Personally, I’m glad I couldn’t get the annual leave!!!

Yeah, probably!

France and England were horrible,so was Holland even they did won.I was on Denmarks side, because they are the only scandinavian group on the tournament.I expected more
of them, too bad sweden isn´t there.

for the most part, i feel the intensity picking up and games getting better. low scoring and alot of ties... but alot of teams making oppurtunties, defensive has been great... you only need one goal to win, and block everyone... seems to be this years mantra so far...
what happened in england, is the old goaltender exiled?

After such a catastrophic mistake, Cappello obviously felt that a more experienced set of hand were needed between the sticks. David James is 39 years-old and has been a professional for nigh on 20 years. He gained the nickname, ‘Calamity James’ for a series of blunders he has made in the past, but he’s been a lot better of late and had a fabulous season at Portsmouth under difficult circumstances – huge financial problems and relegation.

After this competitions over – and James waves goodbye, which he’ll surely do – then perhaps Robert Green will get another chance. Personally, our 3rd choice, Joe Hart, is the best bet for the future.

No..bad match indeed, but they have the tree points.

I heard a theory on Dutch tv last week: the Germans started off in a way the Dutch usually do, and the Dutch played like the Germans normally do. So that would mean Germany gets the applause for beautiful football and the Netherlands can finally rise the cup.

If only..

The world cup is won by points, not by goals, not by good matches and entertainment, so far only Argentina and The Netherlands have 6 points so far, so that's the way to get the cup

Cup seems to be won by luck in equal proportion to skill due to poor quality officials every time it is played.  Fans seem to prefer this element of the game over the potential delays associated with reviews and getting the call right.  Sad, sad, sad!

Which country will get screwed next?

Over here in Europe most people are past that. Some tech support should be added: in this day and age there are still goals that didn't pass the line and players being sent off for a foul they didn't commit. Ridiculous, but Fifa blocks every suggestion for a more fair game. Their president Blatter even went on record before this tournament saying that fans prefer the debate over a fair match. Bulshit from a fossil IMO.

we get a fair amount of PL games over here on FSC... seen him play goal a few times...  was Portsmouth knocked down that low in rankings, or does he have personla issues... wish I could follow more... just don't have the time... I'm hoping one of these years I will follow UEFA and PL up to the minute... Italian and Argentine leagues get alot of air timw here too...

They dont, actually. Its the people who run the game who think otherwise.

that ref jobbed us (the yellow card on finley was bs, too), but we still control our own destiny, so it aint the time to cry (never is). what i wonder is if this is like those judges that were in some country's pocket during the olympics a while back. i really hope not - fifa should deal swiftly and harshly with this guy. heard a commentator on the radio today saying that this controversy is a good thing 'cos it is getting more americans talking about the real football. while the latter is true, i dont ever think it a good thing when your team gets hosed by weak officiating. too bad this stuff isnt in prime time: the crack of dawn is not the easiest time to watch a the real football game...

mexico is looking strong. england... well, they are in the same boat as we are (difference is, everybody expected so much more from england); they have more pressure than the us team to win their next match (i think both win and advance)...
