Just saw the Exile DVD from the Exile box

So here´s what´s on it:

First there is the menu, based on the record cover, and you´ll find 4 choices here to start from: Play All, Stones In Exile, CS Blues, Ladies And Gentlemen and subtitles.

Subtitles are: English, French, German, Spanish, Portugese and italian.

I choose to play all, and Stones In Exile starts. It contains interviews with the band, Jimmy Miller, Anita, Jake Weber etc over stills and home made videos from Nellcote and LA. Some close-ups of for example winebottles and cigarette butts may be newly filmed for "artistic" reasons, i don´t know why anyone of the participants at Nellcote would wanna do that.
Anyway, what we get to see is scenes from the basement, Mick in white flamenco shirt, Keith and Bobby Keyes, showering together  You´ll hear snippets of songs in progress during the basement scenes, interesting. First of the interviewed is Bill by the way, if I remeber right. Then after Nellcote they move on to LA, where we get to see quick scenes from the studio, and Mick talking about how they almost felt they burned themselves out during the recordings.

Next up is scenes from CS Blues, some from backstage, hotels (yes the TV "incident" is included), then the groupie scene from the airplane, however censored a bit. Keith ordering fruit from room 255 at a hotel, a snippet from the interview scene where Keith and Mick is asked about the recording of Exile.
Charlie watching ads on tv about the painkiller Excedrine. Snippets from Brown Sugar and Satisfaction with Stevie wonder are included. The concert scenes have the best picture quality, the black and white film is grainy, but much better than on bootleg, it doesn´t suffer from the sometimes blue discoloration on some releases. wish they´d release all of it some day.

Next is Happy and All Down The Line from Ladies And Gentlemen, and here things start to happen, the picture is cleaned up, no bleeding colors, but still not 100 % sharp, but you won´t mind, cause it´s the best we´we seen. And the sound, altough only stereo (I suspect we´ll get more options when it´s properly released) is very good, you´ll hear EVERYTHING.

So the DVD is just a teaser, since it´s so short, but it promises great things to come.

I'm quite underwhelmed by this so-called 'Delexue Edition' to be honest - and I bloody ordered it, too! It just seems like a load of cheaply put-together excess packaging.

Pdog, you seen this? Makes me seriously wonder what my dosh is going on. It'd have been cheaper to by the regular deluxe edition and the newly-remastered vinyl seperately!

Same here. Getting the $21.99 CD from Target with the new stuff on it, and waiting for the DVDs.
As Nasty said weeks ago, they fumbled the ball badly with their target audience by not releasing the entire package on vinyl. I would have actually bought that on GP. But once again, the Stones.con marketing team snatches defeat from the jaws of victory and FUCKS UP!

You can also pre-order the Stones In Exile DVD from Amazon here:

Thanks for the report, how long is it ? 10 minutes or 30 minutes, reports vary.

So far for "Stones in Exile" we have :

1. DVD in Deluxe Set : 30 (or 10 minutes)
2. TV Broadcast : 40 (or 60 minutes)
3. DVD to appear in June : 151 minutes

All variations on the "Steven Kijek" movie I suppose ?

Back with some news after viewing #1 and #2 :

1. The DVD in the the Deluxe Set includes an 11 minute overview of the "Stones in Exile" movie, then an 11 minute overview of "Cocksucker Blues", then a 7 minute extract of "Ladies and Gentlemen".

2. TV documentary shown on Dutch TV, just shy of 60 minutes, possibly the whole length movie since the director says it's 61 minutes long. I didn't see Mick and Charlie at Stargroves as reported though, only at Olympic and Sunset, maybe that part was cut.

3. That leaves 90 minutes to fill for the DVD (timing per Amazon), possibly longer extracts from CS and L&G ?

As for "Stones in Exile", I can't say I'm very impressed, they try to cram in as many things as possible in 60 minutes, including ridiculous "interviews" (one sentence each time) with some people I've never even heard of. "Being Mick" was much better IMHO, which isn't saying much.

This dvd seems just a promo for Stones in exile and Ladies and gentlemen, I expected more considering the price of the box.
Don't you?
Ouch!

Yes, that "sampler" DVD is certainly not worth the added price.

L&G without bonus stuff would be a crime. Blu-ray should have all the bells and whistles. Christ, we've waited long enough! Stones in Exile on Aussie tv tomorrow. Just 1 hour. The dvd at 151mins should be awesome.

The actual Stones in Exile is only 61 minutes long per its director, see my message dated " 17.05.10 at 08:58:45" above for an analysis of the "discrepancies".
