I can't watch the coverage, it's too depressing.

Has anyone seen the new Dawn Detergent commercial on TV?
They show images of people cleaning the oil off of coastal animals, using Dawn Detergent.
Last time I buy that fucking product.

In a related story, I read today that a lipstick lesbian biker gang lost control of their motorcycles and CRASHED into one of the turbines at the Tehachapi Pass Wind Farm in California. Now there is fucking wind EVERYWHERE !!! Out of control.  Totally chaotic.

I can't watch it either.  Incomprehensible.  I love the sight of the Wild Horse Wind and Solar Facility here.  The wind has been howling for days. Turn baby turn.

What is the over-under of when Obama decides to pull the plug on his promotion of off shore drilling?
This will be a trying decision for him the larger this matter becomes....

President Obama would get a round of applause from me if he did pull the plug on the off shore drilling plan.  I hold out no hope that this will happen.   What's happening in the Gulf Coast now makes me sad and angry.

larger this matter becomes... no kidding, to call this a disaster, isn't even touching on how bad this is... we're talking at least a genration till it can be clean again, major hit to envoirment and wildlife, and the economic impact on fishing alone... over 20 yrs and alaska is still messed up from Valdez spill...
We need clean, and we can be clean when it comes to how we supply energy... the will isn't there to do it. everyone goes to politics with this crap and we've gone nauseum with climate change already, so...  our oil use, it is just so obvious, we need to find alternatives... We are just ill equiped as a species to handle the effects of our consumption of natural resources, and our behavioor is so obviously not good for this planet. It  just all comes down to money and convenience... that's the larger decision, from my POV. and even if this wasn't a dirty way to supply energy, it is finite... it will run out...

The latest plan is to lower a large, box-like structure to the gulf floor, and pump the oil from a valve on top of the box to ships on the surface.

Doesn't look like it's working very well: http://www.nola.com/news/gulf-oil-spill/index.ssf/2010/05/oil-thomas.html

Seafood restaurants around here are doing a booming business and people are stocking up on seafood in anticipation of shortages.

Now that you mention it...

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/robert-f-kennedy-jr/sex-lies-and-oil-spills_b_5641...

as for blaming Obama:

Michael Brown, director of FEMA during the Bush years, told FOX News' Neil Cavuto: "This is exactly what they want, because now he can pander to the environmentalists and say, 'I'm gonna shut it down because it's too dangerous. This president has never supported big oil, he's never supported offshore drilling, and now he has an excuse to shut it back down."

Rush blames Greenpeace or someone:

On Limbaugh's April 29 program, he raised the possibility that the oil spill is all an environmentalist conspiracy: "Now, lest we forget, ladies and gentlemen, the carbon tax bill, cap and trade that was scheduled to be announced on Earth Day. I remember that. And then it was postponed for a couple of days later after Earth Day, and then of course immigration has now moved in front of it. But this bill, the cap-and-trade bill, was strongly criticized by hardcore environmentalist wackos because it supposedly allowed more offshore drilling and nuclear plants, nuclear plant investment. So, since they're sending SWAT teams down there, folks, since they're sending SWAT teams to inspect the other rigs, what better way to head off more oil drilling, nuclear plants, than by blowing up a rig? I'm just noting the timing here."

He added later: "The ocean will take care of this on its own if it was left alone and left out there. It's natural. It's as natural as the ocean water is."

Oh, really? Whew! That's a relief!

My favorite blamer:

Texas Governor Rick Perry (R) speculated that the spill may have just been God's doing: “From time to time there are going to be things that occur that are acts of God that cannot be prevented."
