Looking at the "Shine a light" header I noticed the taperecorder. I still have a 40 years old AKAI taperecorder and I'm still using it. It has a great sound (if attached to a good amplifier)
As you can see I still must rebuild my stereo after I moved into our new house. Children are often amazed when they see it and ask me what it is. Now I'm wondering how many of you still use this kind of equipment beside CD, DVD, BLUERAY, IPOD etc.

Just curious

I've always loved the reel-to-reel look....i have some vintage soul reel-to-reel tapes I found in a flea market years ago - aretha, isleys, marvin etc.... and have held on to them just because they look cool..

I've never owned a reel to reel. My old maths teacher did. Christ, his system was awesome. He invited me & some mates over to his house so he could tape "Love you live". He was a top bloke and the only guy i ever did home work for.

His wife was hot too!

That's beautiful, TD.

I'm still defiantly analogue, me. My dad (and my uncle) were always 'gadget' mad, since like, the 60s, and had everything that was going. We had a Phillips reel-to-reel kicking around the house until the late 90s. I think my dad sold it. A shame.
I still keep 3 decent compact cassette machines. (4 if yer counting the one in the car!) There must be nearly 600 cassettes in my house.
I've 2 good VCRs, too. And about as many hundreds of VHS cassettes.

I'm drifting from the point, maybe? Maybe. But if the original question; "Who Still Uses This....?" meant 'still uses analogue technology?', then a resounding, equalised for chrome but Dolby off, "Me!!!"

Never had one but my uncle had several, he was a classic music melomaniac, he used to buy LPs and immediately record them to a reel-to-reel tape to listen the tapes instead of the records. When he passed away my dear auntie asked me to sell his collection so I sold it to the Director of Music at the UNAM (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México) for just $8,000 USD (approx) I think my uncle was trying to return to life to take me and my aunt to hell for that... I think this is going to happen to me too with my big collection of records

Must of the reel-to-reel tapes are with my cousin

I also remember that my uncle bought my cousins a reel-to-reel tape of Herman's Hermits

you made a grown man cry you made a grown man cry Blank Frigging Stare Ouch! What the fuck? That was clever will ya 2 piss off stu watching how stupid we are LOL

This machine proves how much quality is lost when an original track is converted to (even high quality, 320 bitrate) mp3. Recording an original audiotrack, I cannot hear the difference between the original and the tape (yes, I'm 58 and I know how one becomes deaf, LOL) but I've tried to record several audio CD's that were converted and burned from mp3 to audio with this machine. Yes indeed, they sound awfull. It is said that converting an original audiotrack to mp3 only throws away sound that human ears cannot hear, but this machine clearly notices the difference between original and mp3.
