When it came time for the MENTORS to hit the stage someone would have to come down to Chief's bar to tell El Duce that it was time to go on. Along with the fans who would have to sometimes carry El Duce to the show he managed to get through the shows considering how drunk we could get him and he outdrank anybody there. The real party was always after the show. He could have also took a career in stand up comedy. He was a total riot to hang out with. He will be missed very much by me and many others. Once I was taking a shit in this bar. Someone started taking a shit in the stall next to me. It smelled so bad that i wiped my ass and exited as fast as i could . It was 88' and me and my friend Robin Crosby were at the Rainbow. Well while we were drinking and laughing this wild troll gives a hellish gargle and it was El Duce! I had heard rumours of the guy but never met him. He had done this gargle to get our attention for free booze, who woulda thought, huh? So Robin(guitarist for Ratt) and I bought him aseveral rounds of drinks until we were all so fucked up we couldn't walk. We then went to Robins place and as we all know Robin enjoyed shooting Heroin so him and Duce discussed which was better crank, Heroin or Coke. Robim had his dope on the table(Heroin) I had mine(Coke) and Duce had some powerful as Red Phosphorous Dope. We shot up so much Coke Heroin and Crank for the next 4 days! I am surprised any of us lived. Note Duce wouldn't do the Heroin until we were all out of Coke and Crank so he bumped a huge chunk of tar in his neck and fell out vomiting. Robin and I were so fucked up we started laughing then realized he might be dying so Robin and I put him in the shower through Ice in water then Robim shoved an Ice Cube in his ass to give his heart a jump it worked partially. His first words were I pinched some of that crank for later there's a needle under the sofa with 50 units I need it. I thought your insane and he really was serious he got up and went and got the needle and hit himself on the arm fell out agin and we had to leave him at his friend in Riversides house. I never knew Duce. I just found out he has passed and was shocked to know this many years later. You will be missed by all my friend. But I can tell you that he has made a major contribution to music as it is and PMRC had the Mentors listed as the "filthy 15". Fuck the PMRC. We ran into a lot of those PMRC pussies at the Twisted Sister gig in Long Beach. We would spit in their faces because they would block entrances. I remember hanging out at the Roadrunner campground in Lake Elsinore Ca. cranking Mentors music, drinking massive amounts of beer and smoking pounds of pot. Boy, did we get the people pissed there listening to "you axed for it" over and over again. We owned that campground when we arrived for the weekend every weekend. I saw the Mentors in 1987 in a smelly dive in Newport Kentucky called the Jockey club.My only interaction with El Duce was me asking him for a drink from his bottle of tequilla, and him saying "only if you girly gives me a blow job".Well I did`nt get the drink and as far as I know, he did'nt get a blow job(from my girly anyway). I know the mans been dead for 5 years and I did'nt hear a thing about it untill today 12.17.2002.After reading all the curses,abuse and praise...I had to think about one thing.No matter how vile and depraved the mentors were,it was HUMOR and o.k. bar music for the time(the 80s were a fucking musical wasteland,especially in the midwest). The Mentors came to play the On Broadway Theatre where I was working in San Francisco and I helped them lug their gear up the stairs. The guys were real cool and gave me a record and signed it and stuff. Dirk Dirksen kept me pretty busy those days so I didn't get to enjoy much of the show, however I could clearly see that they had an extraordinary act, even by On Broadway standards. About 10 or twelve years later, '91 or '92 maybe, I was coming out of the 7-11 on Highland in Hollywood, and this man asked if I could spare some change for another beer. You already know who I'm talking about but I hadn't recognised him yet. Glad to help out a fellow with a legitimate need I emptied out my pockets and bid him good luck, which pissed off one of the local dirtbag panhandlers that I'd been disregarding in all my time in the neighborhood. We both laughed at the crackhead for wanting a share and I went on my way. I got to thinking that 73 cents was not nearly enough for a man of such obvious quality and charisma so I put the milk in the fridge, twisted a fattie, and went back down around the corner. He was still working in the same lot so I was quickly able to rectify things with a couple of 40 ouncers and some more change. Things weren't getting any prettier with the jealous locals so we went back to my pad on Ivar Hill to hang out. We talked at length about a lot of things. I found El Duce to be very well-informed and aware, an excllent Drunk, and beautifully direct with a keen wit. All this as we put away a quart of Grand-Dad and seriously dented the Jack, smoked a few doobies, and drank the beers. When I offered to crank out some victuals he remembered a lunch date and off he went. Gone too soon.

Kurt told me himself that he was afraid of pain (caused by the totally debilitating stomach contorsions he suffered) and that the thought of fatally harming himself was not an issue. Though not deeply religious he did feel that his life was not his to take away. He was right - but Courtney was wrong to believe that it was her right to use Kurt as a platform to gain wealth and fame. El Duce - you were a shithead for thinking that you could have the balls to do it - I saw you run from two guys who weighed less than your total body mass 'cos you caught them fucking backstage - I woulda kicked fuck outta the faggots and enjoyed their shrieks. How could you have killed Kurt - I think you were flattered that a somewhat dim Courtney thought of you above anyone else. Don't get me wrong - she is shrewd otherwise she wouldn't have got away with it - but bright she ain't. Kurt - may you rest in peace my friend. I saw the mentors four times (87,91,93,96) plus I saw the side joke project "El Duce and the Sex Devils" in December 1991. The first time I met El Duce one on one was in 1991 at the now defunct Portland Underground. I was in the beer garden and I saw El Duce wander into the girls bathroom. He came out a few seconds later and my friend said "hey you cant go in there" and I said "whatcha doing in the girls bathroom". El Duce replied "what I do is I sneak in the girls bathroom and I jack off". I then shook his hand. The final time I met El Duce was 4th of July 1996 at the now defunct club EJ's. I was talking to him at the bar and this girl come over and yells "Duce".
