Though it seems sort of ridiculous to close it down. As someone who has read this message board for many years, it is quite obvious that these political talks will pop up in other threads again. They ALWAYS have. Do you seriously think Riffy is gonna shut up about this stuff? I understand Gazza's intent but I think it would have been better off to leave the political thread alone as it would keep all that specific content in one place where it can easily be avoided by people that have no interest in it. Just my 2 cents.

But at the end of the day, only one thing matters. The Bush Geeks got their asses handed to them in a major way. And The Rolling Stones certainly approve of that!

It wasn't a great thread. It was a festering sore. About ten people may have found it 'great', but I can assure you that a lot more found it hideous and ugly.

The politics isn't the problem. Its the nature and offensive tone of the posts. I'd be quite happy to leave it open if that side of it had been left out. The people using it were asked to knock that part of it off and it went back to the usual mud slinging again so it was closed. No one can say they weren't warned.

And if that level of 'discussion' makes its way into other threads, then the same thing will happen again.

On Tuesday, she took what appeared to be tongue-in-cheek shots at the entire Republican Party.

"While this decision has not been an easy one, recent events regarding Republican National Committee fundraising at Voyeur, an L.A.-based lesbian bondage themed nightclub, finally tipped the scales," she said, refering to revelations that party funds were spent at a racy California hotspot.

Though Daniels traveled the state on a listening tour last year, she has not committed to a campaign and never declared herself a member of any political party.

In a statement released to the media, however, she noted: "I am ready today to declare that should I seek the office of U.S. Senator from the great state of Louisiana, that I will do so as a Republican."

No mainstream challenger from within the GOP has announced plans to run against Vitter. The lone Democrat to enter the race -- Rep. Charlie Melancon -- trails by double-digit figures in most polls.

A year ago, some political experts identified Vitter as the most vulnerable Republican in the Senate, but the first-term incumbent has worked to shore up support from conservatives and has raised substantial funds for his re-election campaign.

Lunch-only beer policy prompts Carlsberg strike


COPENHAGEN – Scores of Carlsberg workers walked off their jobs in protest Thursday after the Danish brewer tightened laid-back rules on workplace drinking and removed beer coolers from work sites, a company spokesman said.

The warehouse and production workers in Denmark are rebelling against the company's new alcohol policy, which allows them to drink beer only during lunch hours in the canteen. Previously, they could help themselves to beer throughout the day, from coolers placed around the work sites.

The only restriction was "that you could not be drunk at work. It was up to each and everyone to be responsible," company spokesman Jens Bekke said.

Carlsberg had mulled a stricter drinking policy for years and finally decided to impose the new rules on April 1, prompting protests from the staff.

Bekke said around 800 workers went on strike Wednesday and around 250 walked off their jobs Thursday, resulting in interruptions to beer transports in and around Copenhagen.

Carlsberg's truck drivers joined the strike in sympathy — even though they are exempt from the new rules, Bekke said. The truck drivers are permitted to bring three beers from the canteen because they often don't have time to have lunch there.

The trucks have alcohol ignition locks preventing the drivers from driving drunk, he added.
